Another Missing Forum

Well, a comment from another Roadfooder in another thread got me thinking - we're missing a forum about a new kind of fodd I found - Jewish food!

I been working in Toronto in Canada for a few months, and there's a great restaurant chain here called Shopsy's. Anyway, that is some good grubbin!

They got this thing that is called the Dynamic Meatloaf Sandwich, which is like your reglar open face roast beefer except with the meatloaf instead, and a whole xX*xx#@ of garlic mashies on top.

The other good thing, which they told me is a real traditional kind of Jewish food is this ground beef thing called a "knish"!

Except that you don't proncounce it like "knife", but you pronounce it like you would be saying "KABOOM!" or something - do it like this:
"kanish".

Anyway, that's like a cylindar of ground beef all wrapped up like a Memphis turkey pillow in a kind of pastry, and then they stick lots of gravy all over it.

You know, it's kind of funny, but when they bring it to you, it don't look like much, cause it is only about 3 inches wide and 5 inches long. But I ain't lying when I say that dang thing weighs about a metric ton!

That is some good eatin, friends! There's other stuff too - I tell youse about it later!

mr mc gillis, maybe you should look over the entire list of categories. there is a roodfood forum suggestions thread where wants and desires are discussed.
From the tone of your posts, I must ask, are you a real person, or a spoof on the rest of us?

I grew up eating chopped liver knishes. I was past 30 when I first ran into any other kind.

    Trucky,
I took the liberty of altering the spelling of the word in question in your post. Now doesn't that seem to describe things as well??
    Welcome to moderation 101.

    Mr Hoffman -

Do you know where to get chopped liver knishes these days????

My father and I have been searching for them but no one seems to make them anymore.

    Any insights would be appreciated.

Hi Al - thanks a bunch for fixing that - I couldn't figure out how to edit what I had written.

Do you know if I said anything else wrong - people seem to be kind of p.o.'ed or something?

Anyway, the other great item I had was a latke - kind of like a potato pancake! You can put anything on that - even jelly.

Latkes are about the only jewish food I like, and I grew up on it. Actually that might by why I don't like most of it, my mother was a horrible cook that seemed unable to make anything with the proper amount of salt. I think salt was her own personal demon, and she would either add much too much or almost none. Imagine wanting flavor and being given the choice between drinking out of an ocean versus drinking out of the cat's water bowl and you'll get the idea of taste in my house. You might be surprised to hear that after living away from home for 15 years, whenever I go back I make them order pizza.

So that's a long way of saying I don't mind that forum not existing, though I might be willing to try a good restaurant if someone told me they went there in advance and (1) didn't get indigestion and (2) liked the salt level.

    Potatoe Knishes
    Latkes
    Matzo Ball Soup

In New York there are two Knish places that I like. Knish Nosh on Queens Blvd and Mrs. Stahl's in Brighton Beach.

For Latkes and MB soup, I like three restaurants in Miami (area). Wolfie's on Miami Beach and Pumpernick's (various locations) and Rascal House in North Miami Beach. I was not crazy about the soup but I like every thing else there. They also have on-premises bakery. Check them out when in South Florida.
