Checked out your FB page and the trailer looks good. The snow really got y'all good. In your pics it looks loke some writing is on the trailer door, what does it say or are my eye playing tricks on me. Good luck and get some more pics up when you can.

thanks...we painted a chalk board on the door...It goes with the dark blue strip....we list specials, and things like that on there...For Halloween I wrote "happy halloween" and drew a ghost eating a hot dog. the ghost also said "schmelly's hot dogs are scary good" ....here is an updated link to FB - we just added more pics  http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=215945768475619&set=pu.211866282216901&type=1&theater

thank you...Business has gotten better and better each day....We are almost getting over whelmed at all the excitement and positive energy from everyone....We have been getting many good compliments and repeat visitors....One guy came back and was raving about the Ukranian Dog he had right in front of some customers too....He said it was the best hot dog he had in town in years, and that he was going to tell his friends....

thank you...it's been a long crazy ride....We went waaayyyyy over budget.....We are not sure of the exact cost but I would say it was somewhere around 15,000 (that's with the truck stocked with supplies and food at the end as well).....Lots of miscellaneous things that pop up...And the cost of building materials adds up very quickly...It seems I know a lot of the Home Depot employees now...Heck I hired the guy in electric and he was over at my house doing some work, lol....

Sir, I've been watching yer build from day one. It is awesome you have gotten where you are.
But all along I was hoping Schmelly was a nick name you go by.
Not sure I'd wanna eat Schemlly food. Heavenly scented food maybe.
I guess you know what yer doing.

I worried a little about the name, too, until I stopped up yesterday to say hi and try some dogs. Now that I've had Schmelly's dogs, I couldn't care less about the name on the trailer. All I care about now is finding another excuse to make the 45 minute drive to Keene so I can get another one of those ukranian dogs (they were freakin' amazing).

Re:Another new trailer build.... 2011/11/04 02:58:29 (permalink)
i'm truly debating on buying a already built concession or making one myself.. 15k would buy me one ( where i live ) but honestly i super excited on building one. i used to be a contractor in washington doing house additions and roofing. and for the pass 10 years before a career change i was an automotive mechanic. and for the last 4 years i was a dish washer turned prep cook, turn saute cook, fryer, to sushi chef. it's time for me to open a restaurant, but i want to start a food truck first, i've always admired food trucks and really want to take a wack at it. and i think now is the time to start. so instead of buying an already made concession i'm really tempted to make my own from a step van. so sometime next year i will purchase one and start, so dont mind me if i ask allot of questions, and linger on the side lines putting in my 2 cents. you guys are awesome and i cant wait.

Thanks for the +++ comments Stubb....Glad you liked that dog....The Ukranian Dog seems to be a well liked dog...Stop by anytime...Always good to check facebook first though to make sure something didn't happen like trialer getting fixed, etc.

Kreative....Sounds like you have a lot of skills and tools to get the job done....Just keep in contact with the inspectors, and you should be OK.....If you could find a good deal on a cargo truck of some sort that would be ideal I think...I would say the bigger the better...Depending where you end up you may have to put a generator on it....I am lucky I have a city outlet to plug into...Keep us posted, and start a thread if you decide to build one....I'll help ya out with whatever advice I can offer.

I'm new here, and I was going thru all of the threads relating to build outs, and; what you accomplished was great.
my question is how did the Home Depot Door-window work out? How did it handle the trailer flexing ect. I've been researching and found that concession windows are very expensive.

Once again great job

Re:Another new trailer build.... 2011/12/12 20:03:18 (permalink)
schmelly..first, CONGRATULATIONS...
You and I started on another thread about the builds and I too have followed your thread as I was building my own trailer...so next time...ok, ok, so there's not going to be a next time...that was just nutz for me to try and do..but I did it..
I started my first day on 11-22 (I WAS EXCITED) and before you guys jump on me ... I just wanted to see what my day would be like from morning to days end...what setting up and down would be for me and yes, I knew it would be a tough day to sell so I didn't bring alot of food with me...just enough to choke an elephant...
I read somewhere on here that you don't want to be without...makes sense...Where is THAT guy because I could'nt get that statement out of my mind.... I went to the store and just had them unload everything from the truck they had in the back just to be safe...I did hear that little voice in my head telling me....Run Forest.. Ruuuunnnnn...but did I listen....ummmm, no.
I cook almost everything from scratch every day and I'm learning about daily quantity, fast), because I knew I wouldn't be working for a few days after my first day and I knew some of the food would not be worthy to eat... THAT WAS JUST PLAIN OL' DUMB...but the day wasn't a total loss....after cooking non stop to have the freshest food on my side of the street and with the upcomong black friday in everyones head looking for bargains and maybe not wanting to pay a restaurant price and with me thinking .....build it and they will come.....I sold .......wait for it..... wait for it....... a coke...OMG!!...
You know I woke up 7 times the night before, pp'd all the water I was retaining from drinking everytime I woke up...ate 12 tums, watched diners drive ins and dives, Supernanny and felt like someone should be putting me in a time out...so, I figured if i can't sleep I should go to the store to see if they had all the stuff I needed, yeah that's the ticket....fortunately for me they were closed (why it's only 3am), so i had to just gaze into the window at all my next purchases. I felt like a kid watching a balloon go up into the air for the first time...wide eyed and full of enthusiasm but knew it was never coming back....where's the guy in the back of the crowd at a golf match.... yelling those encouraging words of wisdom....You da Mannnnn....all I heard was the siren coming from the cop car chasing some guy running from him, so it wasn't for me...whew!!...but seriously... now back to reality.
My days have been ok with the sales average about 25 dollars a day for now...and I do think it has alot to do with the fact that I don't have my logo wrap on yet so it's just a white trailer with my 4 year old daughter yelling through the window at every passing car......WE HAVE DAWGS as she pretends she's writing down orders....she's such a trooper...but she also reminds me...Her: Daddy... Me: yes hunny... Her: BORINNNNNNG!
I have gotten myself and my inventory under control...or so I thought... since I don't have electricity hook ups (I'm on the side of a road), I have to use quite a bit of ice (need some help on this one)..I am thinking about getting a freezer and doing my own (thoughts please)...and my 5 day cooler lasts about a day... The 5 day Extreme is a piece of $#&T (shut your mouth) ...but it's what I have for now....I'm extremely limited on funds....and I just got my first referal today...a boy and his mom who told me his uncle thought my meatball sub and fresh marinara sauce was better than most places he's eatn' at... Cool...That make me feel good.
Today was my best so far... 40.00 in sales with only 6 customers and it's only my 8th full day (my daughter had to see a specialist so I had to take a few days off) without any markings on my trailer and with a hot dog guy down the road about a mile who called the cops on me to make sure I was legit and not a drifter as I was told (I'm going to take all his business) because IT'S ON LIKE DONKEY KONG.... 2 guys stopped as I was tearing down, so I made them some empanadas on the fly and it felt great...especially since they said they had passed me a few times and realized I was selling food and not just a dog (no disrespect to the doggers)....and I have been giving samples out as my menu changes weekly...yep, you heard that right... I am going to train my customers to stop by or call me and find out what the specials are or what's on the menu this week... It also enables me to see what sells and what doesn't...I give my number out to just about every person who stops by for now and tell them to just call me with their order... so far 1 person has called in her order, she pulled off the road, walked up and I just handed her the food all bagged up, she hands me the money and off she went...she loved the process.
I want to thank all on this site with all the wisdom everyone has contributed what I have read... strap in, put your tables in their upright position, tip yer waitress...it's going to be one heck of a ride...oh and the weather is just beautiful down here, so sitting outside my trailer is just awesome...
I would like to post some pics but I can't seem to...
The name of my trailer is...Bobby G's Drivin' Diner...if you see me, just stop in and say hello

When we first started in NC, our daughter would dance out by the road/sign to attract attention. But she was in her twenties (she just looked like she was 12).
