Another new trailer build....

I know I started a new thread recently for another trailer but that one is being scrapped...I'm trading the new 2011 trailer in for this baby...It's a custom built trailer 8.5 x 16.... The ceiling is apparently over 8 feet high so the guy tells me...

Instead of $4200 for an empty 6.5 x 16 trailer....I am paying $3400 for this....It's comes with a brand new Toastmaster 48" 4 burner griddle...Brand new chest freezer....brand new 3 bay sink, and hand wash sink...brand new 10 gallon hot water heater...40 gallon fresh water tank  and 50 gallon grey water tank with pump - never had water in them....a new touch screen POS cash register.....along with other kitchen gadgets....I got to do some work to it but I'm not scared...

Question...I am planning on putting a fryer in and maybe 2 at some point....I was thinking of putting an 8' hood to cover it all...Is this too big for a trailer this size?

Am I going to be able to run an AC unit in this beast? Will I need make up air ?

Also where'e the best place to get hood exhaust systems at reasonable prices ? If there is such a thing...Pretty much I have seen the ebay listings, and scoured Craigslist.

Here's some early pics:

I'm having a hell of a time here trying to upload photos...telling me upload failed...and it also put 3 of the same pic in the first post...some of the features on this forum are certainly tough to deal with, and can be temperamental...I'll see what I can do about getting some more pics up for you guys.

Apparently there is some weather stripping missing....This by no means is in perfect shape...I would call it the handy man special...Unfortuantely this is all I can come up with in my financial situation...I am driving 4.5 hours tomorrow...As long as it's not dangerous to tow I will probably be picking it up.

There are no windows in this either right now....just awnings that open up....But I priced a 9' x 3' slider window with screens for $226 at the Home Depot....This is the rough size of the that side window.

Looks like a good price especially with the new equip.
As far as the hood size goes get one that will fit your gear according to the regs. I bought my hood and fan from Ventilation Direct.com , good service.
You should be able to install ac in the roof, you will probably have to beef up the area though. Some are designed to drop in a roof vent opening.
Make up air, I would say no, just have a roof vent open or window for ex. Looking fwd to more pics.
    Good Luck.

Hey guys I am back....It was a but crazy....After I did a test tow I realized there was something wrong with the axles or suspension...2 of the tires (on opposite sides and on different axles) were touching the frame/trailer body...

We ended up taking it to a shop that specializes on suspensions...He said we could add another leaf spring to help boost it....I ended up having him add an additional spring on each side....I wanted to know the suspension would hold this heavy trailer and all the equipment....He says the trailer is rated around 12k  pounds now...Cost was $570 with an extra $100 for the extra springs....

The guy who sold me the trailer said he would cover the $570...I paid the extra $100....

I actually talked him down to $3000 then we added the $100...So total cost for all this was $3100.....

I will have pics through out the remodel.....

I just tried plugging in the POS register and it boots up but I only get a screen with 2 round black circles....I have a feeling this was not new....It's a TEC...anyone familiar with these registers or this problem ? It seems like a sweet register, and I think I would like to use it...

    thanks,   Schmelly

I still have to look more at prices but I think I large wall unit might be cheaper ?

And I am thinking easier to install, and maybe more efficient as well as the ac could be lower to the ground ?

It was a roof vent opposite side of where the hood exhaust will be...So you are sure I won't need make up air as long as I have this roof vent ?

And what about in the winter time when it's cold , won't I get a lot of cold air coming in there, and hot air escaping ?

Make up air is for an enclosed building, not a 120 sf trailer, you will have plenty of air coming in with a window open,

In the winter time, you will freeze your ass off. If its 20 out, you have 20 air coming in. Dress warm.

Cool, thanks for the info chef...I saw that make up air adds a considerable amount of money to the exhaust system.

I am starting to plan my layout now....I may be getting a 6' sandwich unit and was going to put it at the end (back) of the trailer....However this might not be a good idea b/c it may not be able to be removed from the trailer, and it may limit repairs on it....Still planning so we'll see.....

are you keeping the rear doors ?? roll up or swing ?
either way, just make sure unit you get has rear access for the working parts, and the door/doors open to allow that access....

my basic understanding on make up air in a truck/trailer at least is so you can vent the items under the hood, and allow outside air to be used to replace the vented air, this is supposed to keep you from sucking your air conditioned air out the back of the van/trailer.........

This is where my predicament lies...There are no back doors or doors on the trailer...It's all solid metal...there is only on access door near the front on the passenger side...It's about the standard width for a door I would say. If I put the sandwich unit in the rear it may never be able to come out. And it might not be able to be worked on for repairs either.....

OK back guys....I got the suspension welded up and taken care of....I got the windows from Home Depot, and most importantly I HAVE IT REGISTERED !!! FINALLY !!! Now I can get this project going !

So first up I am looking for awning props - something to hold up the awnings....Right now they are hydraulic but they have to go b/c they will be in the way of the windows...

Anyone know where I can get awning props ?

Also, we are thinking of painting this 2-tone blue...royal & navy blue....Is this ok ? or a bad idea because of heat from the sun ?

its a given that the darker colors will soak up more heat, but if you have it insulated it should be ok......
as long as the top is white, i wouldnt dare paint that a dark color

well, have you ever walked inside of an easy bake oven ?
the top being white or a reflective silver will keep a lot of the suns radiant heat from beating down inside the trailer.... (think cool seal)

    BAB,
Sorry I wasn't asking you "why"....For some reason my post never appeared correctly....

I was going to say thanks for the advice......I was thinking the same thing also with the insulation, and white roof....Just wasn't sure about the blue though....

So if you're giving us the OK to paint it blue then I think we just might do that

I'll try to keep the thread updated with pics....Keep anyone that is interested updated

OK here are some updated pics...New windows from depot....and also you can see the inside...I'm tearing out the walls ceiling and floor...they were in rough shape....I will insulate then redo everything.....

Also looks like the fuses in my panel are 20amp....I noticed there are 3 outlets daisy-chained on one breaker....this ok or should they be home-runned ?

Also a pic of the dual propane tanks...not sure what size they are....Right near the tanks is the water fill, and a ladder as well if I ever feel like going on the roof....

anyone know where to get awning props ? i looked online and haven't found anything....

    those look like 40lb tanks
