This one in Albany:http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=406082&category=LIFE&BCCode=&newsdate=10/6/2005 Regrettable, I guess, although it's hard for me to imagine drinking black coffee with a couple of chili dogs.

Coffee with chili based meals is second only to beer.

Just read the story on Johnnys.. Sad on how times change... Instead of going to the local "strip", folk are now drawn to malls. Luckily we still have some small towns left where you can stroll down the sidewalk and enjoy a bunch of variety without being stuck in one large building.. Hopefully some one buys Johnnys and keeps a local tradition going there..

It is not easy to get that good location though. Over the years I have stopped at many hotdog trucks and carts. Few looked to be doing well, few were good, and few were there the next time I passed through. A few do great, and those are the ones that copycats notice. Speaking of outdoor shopping centers, a new guy has opened up in the parking lot of our local Home Depot in Auburn Mass. I plan to try him (her?) soon.

Great Coffee too....I had my first cup of coffee there when I was in my early teens. That part of Albany has changed for the worse. The mayor is trying to revitalize the "strip" but unfortunatley there is more problems than solutions going on there. Within a half mile of Johnny's there used to be some great little stores and bars but they are going away bit by bit. It's all the malls and big box stores on the outskirts of the city now. Sad really, I was born not far from there and now I wouldn't want to walk down the street I was born alone after dark. Lots of gangs moved up from NYC. Albany is like living in the country if you are from NYC. Sad day.
