    Not to mention criminal!

I realize every restaurant is different but is food tampering generally well-addressed within the industry or is it treated as more of a "you already should know that it's wrong" thing?  If I was an owner I'd make it abundantly and unmistakeably clear that there's zero tolerance for acts like this.

It can happen in any restaurant when you have a disgruntled (or plan crazy) employee.

Think that can't happen in a top end restaurant? Ever read Kitchen Confidentail?

Yeah, I would no more hold this against McDonald's in general than I would hold the prostitute against Dunkin Donuts or the guy who was selling marijuana from the Pizza Hut drive through against them. One employee's stupidity does not a chain's policy make.

And I've seen much worse things being done at Roadfood-type places, often as a rule rather than one employee being a jerk. Consistently not washing hands after using the bathroom or handling money, or between handling raw food and cooked food (without gloves) leaps to mind. I'm much more worried about that, especially since I'm not the type of customer who acts like a jerk in the first place, which unless the employee has bigger issues most likely wouldn't lead to them spitting in my food (or putting anything else in there).

Please.  This is no big deal.  This young gentleman was just trying to express himself in regard to the injustice of which he feels himself to be a victim.

All the 19 year old Mr. Marvin Washington Jr. did was to follow the inspiring, ethical life of a worthy role-model - the esteemed Civil Rights leader, the Reverend Jesse Jackson who confesses that he routinely did this as a young man.

Clearly, Mr. Washington believes that what he did was only just and fair.  My goodness, everyone has a right to their own beliefs and feelings!  Please do not victimize him further by either disdain or criminal prosecution.

Just as clearly, those who would do so are against both justice and fairness!

The local burger joint near me employed a kid who spit on a burger and was fired. Following your logic, all Roadfood type places are "gross".

They only can get the lowest losers to work in a place like that.  The last time I was there the cashier never looked me in the eye and looked catatonic.  You get what you pay for.

The workers they get are definitely not top of the line.  I stopped at McD the other day, stepped up to the cashier when it was my turn.  She did not acknowledge my presence at all.  No "can I help you?" or "Hi"  Nothing. she just stared at me and worked on a big piece of gum she was chewing.  I said "I would like a cheese quarter pounder."
She said, "We don't have a cheese quarter pounder.  You want a double cheeseburger?"
"You don't have a cheese quarter pounder?"
    "No."
"Do you have a quarter pounder with cheese?"
    "Yes"
    "I'll take one of those."

You should live in a place with ridiculously high unemployment if you want quality McDonald's workers. Easily half of the people working fast food around here are adults who found themselves downsized, outsourced, or eliminated from much better, higher-paying jobs.

Do you happen to have the address of that Pizza Hut?  Sounds like a great service.  One stop shopping.  Pick up weed and a pizza for the munchies.

Hookers at Dunkin Donuts.  That's so Freudian.

They were both in the news within the last year, I'm sure you could find them if you tried. Although both were caught and arrested, so probably they don't offer the same service any more.

I will repeat my oft-repeated tale, which took place a number of years ago, when sales tax in New York City was 7%, and McDonald's hash browns and orange juice were 45 cents each, and cash machines were not as plentiful as they are today. In any case, I had a dollar in my pocket, and it was morning, so I figured on having a snack at McDonald's. I ordered hash browns and orange juice. The bill came to $1.04. So I asked how 45 cents + 45 cents could come to a total of $1.04. I was told "sales tax". I pointed out that if sales tax was 7 cents on the dollar, it couldn't possibly be 14 cents on 90 cents. "Well, that's what the register says!" said the clerk. The manager was called. "I don't know how tax on 90 cents could be twice tax on a dollar, but that's what the register says!"

Well, I walked out, found a cash machine, and got something healthier somewhere else. These days, I would video the proceedings and make a complaint to whichever agency is in charge of weights and measures (these tend to have a lot more power than Consumer Affairs departments).

I cannot bash McD's.  I do not go there often except to get a soft serve ice cream but my 9 and 11 year old grandsons like it and so I take them.  I guess maybe you would also. My 91 year old mother, Mamaw Smith likes their fish sandwich.  I take her there also.  The one we go to is a new one on the UT campus and we have had no issue's.  As many of there of them I am certain that the service and quality varies greatly.  We have never ever had any issues.

I wish to express that I am not a fan of any fast food but I sure do cater to the needs of my boys and Mom.

I like their "Cherry Berry Chiller".  The mango pineapple smoothie is pretty good too.   That's it for me.  No food.

I had the same experience with a girl at a Thurmont location about 15 years ago, she just starred at me, so I returned the favor, after about 30 seconds I said to her, your a dumb ass, I walked out.
