Loved the first two games. Burnett surprised me because I thought he would not pitch well but he had strong command. The collapse of Yankee middle relief could be a much greater problem unless the Yankees start getting much bigger leads . I think it will be hard if they have to use Mariano for more than an inning throughout the series.

For whatever it's worth, I love when people have a lot of confidence in themsleves...especially when they've got the talent to back it up. I loved Pedro's post game interview the other night...come one, who else but Dion Sanders could pull that outfit off

“But the fans, I enjoy that, because at the bottom, I know I played for the Mets. I know they really want to root for me. It’s just that I don’t play for the Yankees, that’s all. I’ve always been a good competitor, and they love that. They love the fact that I compete. I’m a New Yorker, as well. If I was on the Yankees, I’d probably be like a king over here."

Pettitte does his thing...A-Rod starts hitting....Swisher comes out of his slump, big time....result:Yankees take Game three in the enemy park...stop those twirling towels.....Yankees up 2-1...and at worst we'll come back to the stadium!!!!!!

I'm terrible at predictions....As a fan, I just root as hard as I can...Philly is a great team...which never gives up, like the Yankees...this is going to be a tough series to the end!

What a game for tonight....Damon had a hell of a night...that 9th inning at bat was a hell of a performance!! A-Rod comes through...and we're up 3-1.
Lee tomorrow....and that'll be very tough...if we can get it done, great...if not, we return to Yankee Stadium, still with a lead!!!!!

Absolutely awesome game! I agree. I actually sort of want a loss tomorrow...that won't be hard though, Lee is an animal...but that way we win it all at home which is always nice.

Impressive win. Son Sam and I were both dubious when Lidge came in and our lack of confidence was justified.  Posada's hit was an absolute killer because everyone knew there was no way the Phillies could get 3 runs off Mariano. I have enjoyed the series as a baseball fan but the game results have not been something I liked. These Yankees have heart and this AROD is the one I remember from his early days as a Mariner.

Mr. Chips, you seem to be a real fan of baseball ingeneral.....it's a pleasure not to read a steady diet of Yankee bashers, like we had earlier on in this thread...you can be a fan of another tyeam, and still appreciate a good performance...it HAS been a fun and exciting series...good for ratings...and good for baseball!!!!

Haha...agreed..that was a bit much last night. Congrats to them though, they've been playing really well. This is a great series. As they were mentioning last night...it's been several years since a game 6 in the World Series. It's always nice to have an actual game to watch.

Here's a really interesting piece on the difference since the Yankees last won the Series in 2000:
http://sports.yahoo.com/m...-a-Wo?urn=mlb%2C199653

  • A 14-year-old Joba Chamberlain(notes) was trying to avoid wedgies, swirlies, wet willies and other freshman terrors at Northeast High in Lincoln, Neb.
  • The Backstreet Boys were larger than life; Justin Timberlake, Joey Fatone, J.C. Chasez and Jeter's pal Lance Bass were still all *NSYNC with each other; America's temperature was a collective 98 degrees, thanks to Nick Lachey and the fellas with their top-10 hit, "Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)."

a Yankee hat.  But it was too late the sun had already addled his brain.

Re:Any Yankee fans out there - Thu, 11/5/09 10:14 AM
I don't know that I hate the Yankees.  They are kind of a microcosm of baseball- the talent, high level of achievement that makes the game exciting, and at the same time representative of the money that creates uneven competition, that allows them to purchase an abundance of talent and dominate through financial advantage.  We shouldn't be surprised when they come back from deficits or crush other teams.  We are surprised when they lose.

Whenever the Yankees are in the playoffs,  no matter who they play, it's always a David vs. Goliath scenario, and very few people would typically cheer for Goliath.  I'm not angry that they won, just numb (it's not like their wins are inspiring since they are expected), and a little bummed out that the season is over.

As a long time certified Yankee hater, I've got to say this 2009 team is a great ball club. They make their own "luck", they take full advantage of every "lucky break", they perform in the clutch, and they never give up. And they've got a fine manager, a front office willing and able to spend big bucks to get the best, and the least said about Steinbrenner the better.

Cheers, John

Lest I be misunderstood: I'm in Bill Voss' corner when it come to all professional sports. There's too damn much money, too much publicity, too many prima donnas, too much fakery, too may Steinbrenners, too much control by the TV bosses, ...

I'm a Mets fan (like a lot of people, when the Giants left NYC I was devastated until I found the Mets in their "miracle season" so many many years ago). Now I only watch or pay any attention to them occasionally. But I still always root for the National League team in the World Series.

I can still appreciate a great ball club when I see one no matter what leaue they are in.

Cheers, John
