The Angels kind of petered out in the series, with their hitting and pitching and fielding and throwing and running the bases. Perhaps the Phils will show the Yanks some meaningful competition come Wednesday. And maybe the world at large will learn how to spell the top stars names correctly too before this series is over.

New York Yankees- Congratulations on your purchase of the 2009 American League Pennant. Your hard earned efforts in outspending the Los Angeles Angels by an average of well over $3.5 million per player have worked in your favor. You have insured your winning by having doubled the payroll of every team in Major League Baseball except for 7 teams. Good Luck in your next round against the Philadelphia Phillies. Prospects look good for you. Philadelphia has the 7th highest payroll in professional baseball. Fortunately for you Yankees, you have outspent the Phillies by over $88,000,000. That difference alone is higher than the payrolls of 17 teams. Please remember that this is about dollars, and not mystique. The mystique left along time ago with Mantle and Maris. No one is mystified by how you win- it's economics. We realize that both you and your fans are energized by your high spending that instantly make you a favorite before the first pitch of the season. It is extemely exciting that you incredibly outspend all other major league teams by an average of $116,000,000 per team, which provides a great sporting chance for all. Hopefully your efforts in grossly outspending every other team will result in the procurement of a World Title, which you can throw into the box with the other ones. Then, it's off to the real season, that of free agency and off-season signings, where the real action is. Next year, in order to make the season even more exciting for Yankee fans, MLB has proposed the following: In 2009, the Yankees had the highest payroll, at about $201,000,000. The Mets were second, at $149,000,000, a difference of about $52,000,000. For 2010, if any team in MLB is within $50,000,000 of the 2010 Yankee payroll, the Yankees will then be officially considered an underdog for the 2010 World Series. Imagine, a 2010 upstart Yankee team, battling through a season while only outspending the next closest team by $48 million dollars. It could be the Cinderella story of the year, and maybe even along the lines of the 1980 Olympic Hockey team victory over the USSR. How exciting!

Not a Phillies or Angels fan actually. A Lamborghini does cost a lot and is fun to drive, but I don't know what that has to do with being a Yankee fan. Now if you were in Yankee management or ownership, I could see where you would draw a parallel. As a fan, you're actually watching the Lamborghini being driven and cheering it on. And when you're the only one who can afford the Lamborghini, and you're racing it against Cadillacs, Fords, Kias, and Hyundais, how fun is that to watch?

Oh well...Yankee haters....take your hate elsewhere and allow us Yankee fans(this one for over 55 years) to enjoy what this team accomplished......at least I don't have to listen to a broken record over and over again...this is getting a little childish....you hate the Yankees....then start a I hate the Yankees thread....this thread was Any Yankee Fans Out there!"...not Yankee haters......in NYC we'd say you're all a bunch of "saps"!!!!

If the Yankees didn't so grossly outspend everyone else, I wouldn't cheer against them. The fact is that they're not fun to watch, when their spending predestines them to winning seasons. There is no surprise to them when they win, and they only thing that's surprising is when they don't make the playoffs or they lose. The Yankees never rebuild. They just reload. And it's only because of their ability to outbid everyone else. That's why it's fun to watch them get beaten, because it's always an upset. Yankee fans need to stop pretending that their team wins because they are better coached, have a better farm system, or there is some type of magic or mystique that other teams don't have. The Yankees win simply through the mass purchase of top talent. Nothing more, nothing less. So if you're a Yankee fan, make sure to cheer loudly in the offseason during free agency, because that's where the Yankees make their seasons.

Pigiron NC Cheesehead No doubt the Yankees are a great team. But they should be with the payroll they have. Same old same old. Yankees bought Sabathia from the Brewers. Who will they buy next with the unlimited payroll? Uhh, check your facts. Sabathia was a free agent. Uhhh, The facts are that the brewers could not afford to match what your high dollar team was willing to offer him. Could it possibly be that money played into that role? Why would anybody let him get away idiot? Why can't you people just accept that the current structure is what wrecked mlb? Just do a search on MLB team payrolls.... I completely respect the history of the Yankees but the structure of the league has changed quite a bit since Babe swung a bat. Do you want the rest of the country to join in or do you want to stay an arrogant jack ass? Now see, as a packer fan, I could be the same jackass as you when it comes to football but you baseball yankee fans would never get it. Oh and Leethebard, what was that payroll structure like 55 years ago? Or for the many more championships won by the Yankees before you were a fan?

I am a fan of neither team and most likely won't even bother turning on any of the games. What gets me is that if it goes seven games, the World Series is scheduled to end November 5. And that is if there are no games postponed due to weather. That is plain ridiculous that they are still playing baseball in November.

Go Phils I agree but don't find them as obnoxious as what happens when the Dallas Cowboys get on a roll. I've been ticked off at them since they anointed themselves "America's Team". Now that they play in Jerky Jones' Cathedral to Greed, I find them the easiest team to root against on the planet.

I'm not a Yankee fan but I respect the team. Rivera, Jeter and AROD are all hall of famers and much as i hate the yankees I'm glad AROD has shown his true talent level. The Yankees have always used the system to their advantage(the 20's teams were filled with talented ex- Red Sox and the 50's teams built their talent with the Kansas City shuttle) and money has always helped them. But their scouts discovered Rivera, Posada and Jeter. What Yankee money allows is the luxury of expensive free agent mistakes that other teams simply can't afford. The 1997 Marlins bought their championship but the market could not sustain the payroll. New York will always have an advantage as it is the nation's most glamorous city and can generate revenue streams for team and players other cities cannot match.

Sabathia was a FREE AGENT. He could have signed with the Brewers if he wanted to, or with any other team. But he did not. HE is the one who chased the money to New York. The minute the 2008 season was over, he belonged to no one. The Yankees bought him off the free market. Whether or not you can wipe your tears away for just a moment and accept the fact that the Yankees have more money to spend than any other team, that's not my problem.

Also the Yankees put the money they make back into the team. They don't take all the money and run like some other owners do.

The Yankees have the money to take a sizable profit and put it back into the team. They can afford the best of everything. Money is their competitive advantage
