Any women's soccer fans out there?

We are  fans because  our  eight year old plays soccer.  She is enrolled in an 8 AM - 12 PM  camp this week and came home yesterday and asked if she could invite some of her soccer friends over to have lunch and "watch the USA women beat the French women".  I told her that she could  and calls were made.

Six little  8-9 year olds  showed up for lunch and to watch the game.  Lunch  consisted of  fruit cup,  tiny rolls, and chicken salad and milk.  They  happily  ate and cheered the USA on to victory  and then one of the dad's  came by  and  picked them up and took them out to celebrate with  snow cones!

A fun part of this is that Juliette's  little cooking  club prepared the huge chicken salad yesterday.  Since I pirchased pink paring knives for each of them,  they  now call their club  "The Pink Knife Chefs".................hard work for me  but  lots of fun and laughs.

I don't know why everyone is calling the US v. Brasil match a great game. For the better part of an hour and a half of play, I was yelling, ranting and raving over the officiating. Only in retrospect after the US got a bit of positive karma and was able to overcome poor officiating and poor sportsmanship on the Brazil side, would one consider it a terrific match.

But, anyways, I could not watch US v. France since I'm at work, so I had the up-to-second-play-by-play rolling on my screen. A nice systematic picking apart of a very fine French team. Go USA Women - you ROCK!!!

BTW - sounded like a fun little gathering. Go girls! Thanks to Mia Hamm and women's major league soccer, soccer has quickly become a major women's sport in the US.

Women's soccer is great.  It certainly is keeping lots of girls in our area happy and healthy with all the great excercise!  I wish that they would have had soccer teams for girls back when I was in grade school.

I love soccer. The U.S women's team has a great combination of skill and bravado that I like a lot and the former University of portland player who made the great pass to set up the game tying goal against Brazil( who may be the ultimate soccer mom) is one of my favorite athletes ever.

I really hate that we lost today. The Women did a great job and have nothing to hang their heads about.

They had plenty of chances to score and blew it. Totally outplayed the Japanese. Japan's first goal should never have happened. Mental lapse by USA. That's why they play the game.
BTW, who won the British Open?
It'l be interesting to see the TV ratings tomorrow.

I read that this was the first time in 25 tries that Japan beat the USA in women's soccer and it had to happen on the worlds largest stage. Too bad.

I would have loved to see the USA Women win today, but I think it is a good thing that Japan has something to cheer about right now.
The USA team has nothing to feel ashamed about.  They did great!

Actually after blowing two leads and the first three penalty kicks, the U.S has a lot to ashamed of. The game was a gift to japan.

I hope Japan's win gives the populace the same lift New Orleans got when the Saints won the Super Bowl right after Katrina. Sometimes an unrelated "high" will help you get through a rough period.
