Anyone Remember Tex Critters Pizza Jamboree? Sat, 10/13/07 4:07 PM (permalink)
I don't know why this place just popped into my mind, but back in the late 70's or maybe early 80's, we had something in central Indiana called Tex Critters Pizza Jamboree....pizza and an arcade, with an animatronic music show....does anyone else remember these? Were they a nationwide chain?

Jeepers is still around in a few places but not very many. The other chains on this list, were they open to all or only to families?

I am pretty sure that Jeepers were the first major business to ban single unmarried adults without children from entering. Reason being to create a safe harbor for children. Being a business that caters to kids it would make sense to do that.

However what was good to one isn't good to another. Back in the 90s I remember when many other businesses tried to adopt the "Jeepers" policy on a part time basis. Amusememt/Water Parks, shopping malls, movie theatres, bowling alleys, baseball games and even a few regular restaurants setting aside time where only "families with children" are allowed.

One of our local Cici's Pizza tried this. From 7 until 9, only adults with child could eat while those adults without kids were pretty much given directions to take their businees elsewhere

The results were a bit less than positive since one is turning away business so course the policy didn't last. As a manager of the "family" Cici's Pizza said at the time "....this is so retarded !!".

The Burger King in Hedgesville, WV tried to have a family night once they instaled their new indoor playground, however they picked Saturdays as the day to do it. Smart move..not !! Considering the Burger King was next to a large high school and other than a Subway, BK was the only fast food in town. Considering that 90% of those who attended could not eat at that BK, well they did lose a lot of business. Oh..they enforced this even in the drive-thru too.

There is a place not far from me called "Amazing Jakes". Never been there but I do get ads from them through the mail saying that they have the biggest and best buffet in all of Colorado, looking at the size of the building they may very well be right. And despite all the kiddie rides, lazer tag, and other kiddy stuff, they do say "take the office along for the best buffet" so I would imagine its open to all, all the time.
