I'm Just Curious, were there any Burger chefs in Michigan and when did they last leave? I herd before Hardees went downhill, they purchased a lot of the Chefs before they left Michigan

We used to eat there all the time. The chain officially died for good in 1997. I think some of them became Carl's Jr., but most of them are now Hardees (there are no Carl's Jr. in Michigan, and only three Hardee's locations).

A few years ago Hardees brought back the Big Shef for a limited return. Burger Chef I remember the most in Michigan was in Westland (Detroit suburb) at the corner of Wayne Rd. & Cherry Hill Rd. in front of K-Mart & Great Scott!

We had one in Ionia, Michigan in the 70's, went out of buisness sometime in the 80's. Now the building is a video store.

We had one in Niles Michigan, it became a Rodell's, then a A & W and it is now a site of a Riteaid.

I recall one in Ypsilanti MI on Washtenaw ave. in the late 70's. It became a Burger Works, rather like a Fuddrucker's.. but they didnt last long. Changed names more than I can remember. The Burger Chef in Ypsilanti on Michigan ave became a Hardee's. and a lousy one at that! As a small child I thought Hardee's was the devil.

I preferred Burger Chef to McDonald's when I was a kid. Do believe they had a location in Garden City off of Ford Rd./Middlebelt area if I remember correctly.
