Related questions: Why does the USPS spend millions each year to sponsor a cycling team?  Do they think it encourages someone to go out and buy a stamp or to ship a package?

I didn't need to watch it because it had been hyped so much to the dang thing ever airing on TV.  I'm so bummed about LA though.  I believed him all thru the years that he was clean and  sad to realize all this about him.

I didn't watch it but have read about it and seen a few excerpts. All I can say is Lance Armstrong is still trying to manipulate. He should just slink off into obscurity.

So, he was better at the sport than everyone else. And he was better at doping than everyone else. Get ticked off at the sport, folks. The doping is part of the sport. Why be angry only at the best practitioner of the sport?

I'm not disappointed in him for doping. I'm disappointed in him for categorically (and often vehemently) denying it until just after the statute of limitations ran out for him to be prosecuted for perjury. In my book, that makes him an a**hat. I feel the same way about what's-his-name the baseball player. Barry Bonds? Mark McGuire? One of those guys.

Up until all the scandal, I knew next to nothing about cycling. I knew his name because you had to live under a rock to miss it. But I didn't really give a rip about him, other than a passing, "Oh, that guy won that bike race in France again". Through all of this I have been forced to learn more about him than I ever cared to, and what I see is someone who thought he was so much better than anyone else that he was untouchable. Turns out he was wrong.

Most likely you're right, is it cheating if everyone does it or is it just part of the sport.
Maybe not everyone but I'd bet everyone that was competitive.

I feel sorry for the poor bastard that goes through life working his ass off to be the best at his sport. If you do things because everyone is doing it, you just may walk off the cliff with everyone else. I would rather look up to the person who came in second place and didn't dope, thats the kind of Americans I want to cheer for............leaders don't follow..........pnwc

Could it be he lied, bullied, attacked and sued those who were right all along? How despicable does one have to be before you understand? Greg LeMond might not agree with you.

Considering the pervasiveness of doping in the sport what would make you think the person who came in second wasn't doping? It's much more likely that person was able to come in second because he was doping.

I understand that he was better at it than his competitors. Not, of course, that those who were "right all along" weren't doping, too.

Barring the off chance that Lance is somehow related to one of the mods, I see no reason for that to happen.

Sports is sports. This stuff has been going on forever. There is no sport untouched by this sort of thing. If you think about it, in any competition someone will do anything to be better. It's all about judgement and personal integerty.

It matters not that he was better than his cheating contemporaries. He was a jerk all along and deserves no quarter of sympathy or excuse. Note that I specifically mentioned Greg LeMond. He was a clean three time Tour de France winner and is now the only American who has legitimately won. The sport was not always into doping but was coincidentally during the Armstrong years.

Many sports figures doped. But I never liked him. Thought he was a jerk. And his interview proved it. He got caught. Why be a d**k  now?Yuck.

I'm pretty sure that was what one could ascertain from my post. To whom will the tour du france win(s) go to? and will the probers into races from long ago, go so deep and so far to prove that cyclist was doping, too? how about ALL finishers in all major races over the decadeof doping? there will be no cyclist left.

jerk or not, the whole thing was a sham against him, and the US. nobody outside of the US roots for an american to win cycling events.

the most important hurdle he accomplished was beating cancer. and they can't take that away...or could they?

Frankly, as far as I'm concerned his work at cancer awareness, his fund raising for cancer, and the hope that he has given to cancer patients far outweigh everything else.

Yeah right, and Bernie Madoff gave a whole bunch of money to charity. He's still a lying, thieving SOB.

This really hurts the Livestrong charity. Many people will send their money elsewhere. The way he sued and tried to destroy people (and in a couple of cases did) just for telling the truth makes him a true loser. Most other cyclists doped also but they didnt destroy peoples lives.
