Anyone ever work an event like BikeWeek or Nascar? Sun, 02/24/08 7:53 PM (permalink)
I am just doing some research. Would like to consider a mobile food cart. Since I am in Orlando, it would be very easy to go out to Daytona during thier large events. Has anyone ever worked them? If so, can you share your experiences? How do you secure a location during these events? Also, if you feel like sharing, were they profitable or too costly? Thank you!

I work four very large NHRA events a year. I do really good with them. The problem with nascar is you have to book with centerplate or a company like centerplate and the rent is 45% on drinks and 36% on food based on gross sales. Now that is inside the track, you could find a location outside the track but I would think it would be tough to make money that way.

I've never done bike week but I have three very large harley drag and rallies that we do and they can be very profittable but don't plan on getting any sleep for the whole event. Last year we closed at 3am and opened back up at 6am just so we could take a two hour nap and get ready everything ready for breakfast but you can do well if you don't mind the work

Wow! Those % are mind boggling. How much are you able to mark-up your prices over your standard pricing?

I don't do any centerplate events because of how high the % is. But thats why burgers are $7 at those type events
