And do you ever go? I hadn't been in awhile until some co-workers went out yesterday and asked if they could pick up anything there for me. I went balls out and got the Maryland crab cake platter.
Well, sitting there at work with that styrofoam container when it was brough back to me was out of this world. The thing was even lukewarm but that didn't matter to me. We're talking two crab cakes sitting on top of a bed of white rice, which is very dry there but still good. There's cole slaw, and fries ( I wanted the green beans instead of fries but no sweat). Of course a couple hush puppies (they should give you like 6, though) and my co-worker couldn't finish her fried fish platter and threw one of the planks into my container. GOOD.

The key here was setting up shop: I utilized all of the little cups. Opened the cocktail sauce to use for dunking the fries in, busted open the tartar to dunk the fish plank into, and of course the butter for dunking my hush puppies into. That is just the meal that keeps going. I was in a trance and ignoring anyone who came near me. Didn't finish all the slaw, but good GOD that is a good platter for $6.99.

What do you people get there? Rack when you dine in and they serve it to your table.

You can get deviled crabs too....

this platter looks good at hell and rack whoever took this photo...clearly this person is about to set up shop with the packets like I did and he scored a slice of cheesecake to boot.

I like their slaw and when they USED to have AYCE catfish, cooked country style. They switched from cod, to haddock, to what they serve now, pollock.
Most everthing there too greasy for me, anyway.

The Gumbo is good, but my dinner of choice is the Seafood Platter... Fries and slaw with several fried shrimp, 2 large fried fish filets, some clam strips and 2 of the crab-shells stuffed with a crab-stuffing of some sort (Deviled Crab?) Free refills on the sodas inclued for about $7.50
Captain D's stands head and shoulders above Long John Silvers in the FF Fish business. We have several in this area.

I too prefer it to LJS, although I do enjoy the LJS fish sandwich with the banana peppers. We don't have a local Captain D's, but there are some in neighboring cities. Sometimes they have fried oysters, and they're pretty good. I also like Captain D's fried okra.

We don't have Captain D's around here, and that's ok with me. The last time I ate fish & chips at one in Missouri, my ankles swelled up. And I didn't put any salt on the food - it came that way.

Double amen to that Al. Years ago, LJS use to be superior. I do not know what happened but they went down hill and Captain 's improved For fast food, they are very good and consistent. I believe everything is cooked to order.

I was amazed at how tasty it was and the right consistency too, I thought, but it was way too salty. I'm reluctant to even try it again.

I'll agree with Sundancer; I went to Capt. D's about a dozen years ago and thought it was horrible and never went back but earlier this year pulled in to one to give it another chance and have been twice since. That and Whataburger are the only FF chains I've been to since the first of the year.

The one closest to me closed down several months ago. I never did try them.

There are Captain D's places around here, but I've never tried one. The last I heard it was owned by Shoney's.

Two Captain D's around my area, but different choices in what you can get, mainly
the specials advertised on TV - the stores in Dothan offer those specials, while the
ones in the Panama City area do not.

We've got them around my area. I'm not overly impressed. They are good for a quick fish-n-chips when I really get the urge.

Not bad for fast food. I do like their stuffed crab and fish. Their fries are not my favorite. The huspuppies are good dipped in their sweet and sour sauce. I always ask for extra "crumbs" and get a small box of crunchies (droppings from the batter). Pour a little vinegar over them (quite tasty).

                            H. Salt was the only decent fast food fish & Chips place. I cooked there the summer before college, and it was good stuff. We used fresh pototoes, peeled, sliced, blanched in oil and then fried to finish them off, and the cod was in large frozen blocks that we had to thaw and cut into fillets. We mixed the batter and had to drop the battered fish into the oil from just above the surface of the oil, resulting in a whole summer of burned forearms and hands. No hush puppies, thank-you. Slaw was also chopped and mixed in store. No ketchup, either, only malt viengar. And NO fish "samwiches".
