Some of the Tartar Sauce I buy in the store is just ok. I have tried some Tartar Sauce's at restaurants that were great. Has anyone made this before? Sure could use a great recipe.

This is what we use for tarter sauce..............just wonderful! (and not the usual tarter sauce) 1/2 cup plain yogurt 1/2 cup mayonnaise 1 lime, juiced 1 jalapeno pepper, minced 1 teaspoon minced capers 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin 1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed 1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper Mix all together and let sit in fridge for a couple of hours. This will keep for a long time. (I used minced jarred jalapeno slices.)

Here is a basic recipe to be used if time is short - you could substitute that other white stuff for mayo if that suites your taste, dill relish for dill pickle, and more or less onion, depending on your taste. 1 cup mayonnaise 3 tablespoons minced dill pickle 1 teaspoon grated onion Mix together then refrigerate until used.

The epicurious.com website is being snarky right now, but if you search for Cajun Catfish nuggets with tarter sauce it's truly incredible. The recipe was in the February 2003 issue if memory serves. Sorry I couldn't cut and paste for you.

I was able to retrieve it this morning: For tartar sauce 1 cup mayonnaise 1/2 cup sweet pickle relish 2 tablespoons capers, rinsed, drained, and chopped 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice 1 tablespoon prepared horseradish 2 teaspoons hot sauce 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning This is great!

From Fannie Farmer's "Boston Cooking School Cookbook" circa 1961. Mix well 3/4 cup mayo 1 tsp. minced onion 1 tsp. finely chopped pickles 1 tsp. chopped olives 1 tsp. chopped parsley 1 tsp. capers 1 Tbsp. tarragon vinegar The tarragon vinegar is the key. I've never used the capers and sometimes leave out the parsley. pb

Not to good at writing recipes, but you can probably figure out what I mean :) 1 cup of Mayonnaise 2 green onions chopped 1 kosher dill pickle diced small. I like the kosher style because it seems to help 'hold' the tarter together. 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon dill pickle juice This is my Grandmother's recipe that I helped her make about 50 years ago! Enjoy.

Hey everybody, firepro01 is my husband! He is a retired Seattle firefighter, and I sent him a link to this thread and asked him to post because he really does make the BEST tartar sauce. Hope you like it! We should try to get him to give us some of his other recipes from when he was on duty in the "beanery."
