There was one in Greensboro, NC back in the early 80's. Burgers were better than most of their competition's. Only lasted a couple of years at most.

Thanks guys. I remember that their fries were good also. I wonder why they went out of business with stores spread across the country? On a side note, the restaurant that replaced the WUVS in my town was called Chuckie's Chicken. They sold chicken, but they had good burgers. The deal was 3 burgers for .99 or a coke, fries, and burger for .99! So, I would get both deals for 1.98, and pig out to 4 burgers, a coke, and fries!!!!!!!!!!!! It was heaven.

One of the best burger's you could order, made fresh, right in front of you and one of the first restaurants with a fixin's bar that you could build your own burger, and the fresh cut fries were also very good.

The operations profits of the restaurants did not live up to what was expected.
The over expansion was so fast the company could not keep up.
The company was developed by Jack Penrod and used many old McDonalds procedures in its operations like fresh meat for burgers, fresh cut fries and added chili to its menu.
The main draw was fresh food in purple and white building and a passion fruit drink known as Wuv Juice.

D'dog, yes, WUVS is a diaper. We used to strap the things on the younguns. If our three twenty somethings knew I wrote this I'd be running to save my life!
When you gonna tell us about Little Rock?

PS. Its a little strange today here in the high desert of New Mexico. The sun hasn't shown itself and occasionally wet stuff falls from the sky. Strange occurance? I'm beginning to think Al Gore may have a point.

D'dog, pardon me. Just cruising around, I found your report on Little Rock, didn't read a word, hurried back to report. I was in great fear you might wanna put one of them LUVS on me and I didn't know what else you might do!
I'm heading back to enjoy your report.

I remember seeing a few Wuvs in Florida when on vacation as a child in the 70s, but never ate at one.

Then a new Wuvs opened in my hometown of Montgomery, Alabama, but the building had a very different style from the ones I'd seen in Florida. They had good food - especially the fries.

When I returned to Montgomery in 1980 it was closed.

I haven't thought of WUVs in ages. There used to be one in Hixson, TN (Chattanooga area) back in the 70s. Though I would have been under age 10 at the time, I remember the fries there, too. Good stuff.

WUV'S had a location on Route 17 in NJ, north of Paramus. It was only a few miles from Ramapo College, a state college I went to in 1980-81.

I used to LOVE the all you can eat fried chicken buffet at WUV'S during those college days!!!

There was a single WUV's in Phoenix, AZ on 7th Avenue just south of Indian School. I LOVED this place. The skin-on fries were to kill for and the beef burgers were AMAZING. My wife and I still talk about it whenever we pass the Taco Bell that took its place (and is still there).

My first experience was in Fort Lauderdale in 1979 while visiting a friend. Came home and saw  that they were opening in Ramsey NJ on Rt. 17 south. Great fresh burgers and skin on fries. Seems to me that 5 Guys could be somewhat similar.

In the '80s, there were at least two WUVS in the Chicago south suburbs. One was in Matteson just off US 30, near Lincoln Mall. The other was adjacent to Orland Square Mall in Orland Park, just off Lagrange Road ( US 45. ) I ate one time at the Orland location; the food was decent but not impressive enough to go back.

Yes, I worked at one in Bellmore NY circa 1981 or 1982 when I was a junior in High School. I remember we used the same rag to clean the bathrooms that we used to clean the tables, however they ended up firing me because I accidentally came in one Sunday wearing sneakers instead of shoes.

An old girlfriend (this was in 1981) used say; Hey Bruce, want some WUV Juice? LOL. That was their version of an orange drink. A cross between Hi-C Orange and Tang.

This was a burger joint that I used to visit in Middleburg Hts, OH on the corner of Pearl and Bagley. They had great burgers and they were good. Let me know.

They had great from scratch onion rings;assume biscuits (one of the first fast food chains to offer biscuits with chicken most offered dinner rolls) there was one located close to popeyes fried chicken headquarters in jefferson parish louisiana. The popeyes execs would eat breakfast at wuv's and got the idea for biscuits with chicken from them. the rest is history. Someone asked why the name Wuv's. I was told that Jack Penrod the originator for the chain had bought a stuffed animal, while on a plane trip, for one of his kids and there was a tag that said I WUV YOU  He liked that saying and decided to name his new chain WUVS. Their salad bar was assume And to correct another poster Wuv juice was not like OJ . It was made from ingredients flown in from Hawaii like passion fruit, mangos, guava etc. If anything it was a healthy version of Hawian Punch. There moto was "Fresh Never Frozen". As you can tell I loved the chain. Also where I lived they were  not purple and white buildings they were grey stucco and cedar wood on the outside and on the inside there were plants all around a ledge close to the ceiling  i think there were a mixture of ivys and ferns plus the furniture was all wooden no plastic. also there breakfast was awsemoe nothing frozen everything made from scratch and they also used the biscuits cut in half to make strawberry shortcake with real made from scratch Whipped Cream. Also while you were in the queing line you could look into the room where they washed and cut their French Fries and where they cut and battered their onion rings. There was no doubt there stuff was "Fresh Never Frozen"
