Just looking through my latest issue of Gourmet and there is a wonderful excerpt from Jane and Michael Stern's new book......"Two for the Road" and it sounds great...Here is a great line "Our initial lust for each other was fueled by an orgy of lobster rolls, split hot dogs, Yankee Dooddle Burger cheeseburgers, calazones, and cannoli."....................the book is going to be a real fun read!

Some of Michael's lust might have been fueled by the fact that Jane was a real cutie.pb

I know those lobster rolls and the split hotdogs. I can understand it. On the other hand, I never cared much for stuff from the Doodle, except the English muffins and coffee I'd have every morning on my way to school.

I'm sure she still is. It's just that the pics in Gourmet were from, I think, 1970 or thereabouts. pb

BTW, the Stern's car looks unsafe at any speed!

Although their food looked great and Jane and Michael appeared to be very happy, I wondered what type of car that was. My first thought was a Corvair. I noticed the gas cap on the left front fender which made me think it was a rear engine vehicle.

I always wanted a red convertible

First Generation Corvair. You can spot the emblem on the glove box. When my mother remarried in 1964, my newly acquired big sister and her husband had a Monza Spyder, Turbocharged 180 HP version. I wanted that car so badly, but I was 12, and they traded it in for a '65 Chevelle SS. I didn't get that car either.

OMG! you're right! I spent much of my childhood (not in a carseat) staring at the Monza chevron on the glove compartment (it's also on the steering wheel.

If you asked my folks, they'd say it was the last good, innovative car to ever come out of Detroit. Knew the Sterns have good taste.

Uh, didn't I already give that away?

My first car was a Corvair Corsa. They used to call them the poor man's corvette.

I had three different Corvairs over a 5 year period. Aside from one getting smashed up in an accident while it was parked, I seldom had any problems. Amongst the three cars, I probably made 25 or more rounds trips from Plattsburgh to Ithaca (300 miles one-way, more or less) and countless trips from Ithaca to Cortland and from Ithaca to Keuka College and so on. In the true college student tradition, these trips trips were made in spite of the weather and, believe me, I drove thru it all.

Until that distinction was passed to the Camaro.
