I know that a lot of you hate Arby's.  That being said, I'd like to share my experience today.

I received a coupon for a free Arby's Roast Burger with the purchase of any size drink.  They offer three different types and I chose the Bacon and Bleu.  It's not a fried burger, but it's built like one.

It included roast beef, lettuce, red onion, peppered bacon, tomato, and a bleu cheese sauce on a kaiser-looking bun that had the consistency of a chibata roll.

It was excellent.  Everything was fresh, the bacon was crisp, and the roll was perfect.  I'll try their other varieties as well.

Of course, I do expect at least five lectures here about how lousy Arby's meat is.  Have at it.

I think to catch someone's attention.  It caught mine, and I think I'm pretty normal (don't ask my wife).

The best thing I have had there in recent years was their BBQ sandwich... 99c. I was surprised and did not expect it to be good. I think it was just offered for a limited time.

I have not heard of anyone here who would admit to trying one. :~)

If you are referring to the Arby-Q, I expressed my disappointment with it in recent years compared to the original, in the thread "Arby's, 38 years ago": http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/tm.aspx?m=457804&high=Arby-Q

You must be corrected, if you got that "burger" at Arby's, it also didn't have any "roast beef" in it at all!!!!

I just went out to their website menu and those do look pretty good.  I'll definitely give them a try.

6star. I think what I had was something new. It was chopped up something w/ BBQ sauce on it. It's now off the menu here in Texas. It was only on the menu for a few months. I do agree that I loved Arby's 38 years ago!

Arby's was my first introduction to "mystery" meat. Life is to sort to have to put that stuff in my body. What is it???

I looked and looked but I couldn't find any sign of a burger in my roast burger.  I wonder if the truth in advertising laws come into play here.

I'm nibbling on my first Roast Burger as I write this. I got the Bacon and Cheddar version, and while neither the bacon nor the cheddar is anything special, I like the roll combined with the roast beef and lettuce and tomato. A little Arby sauce kicks it up a notch too.

While it doesn't compare to Roadfood, Arby's has become my ff of choice of late. I don't have any options (KFC, BK, and McDonald's yuck) and I like Arby's subs. All of the more roadfood places here are packed at lunch due to their proximity to the local Court House, and I don't have a lot of time for lunch.

All in all, the roast burger isn't bad. I'll try the other varieties soon.

They have to call it a burger because they can't call it roast beef - sure beats their original name - roasted mystery meat.

You're right, Jman.  I'm not a huge Arby's fan, but I tried the All-American Roastburger on Sunday and was so pleased with it, I went back for another on Monday.  I also tried their Turkey Bacon Club Chopped Salad and couldn't believe it came from a fast-food place.  Clearly, Arby's is doing a few things right.  (Their Orange Swirl Shake is rank, however.  If it only tasted like a Frosted Orange from The Varsity!

Incidentally, the Roastburger has an interesting dry spice sprinkled over the meat, which is a nice touch.  I'm a dry spice fanatic and carry a little travel shaker with me where ever I go, along with my RealSalt.

For decades this sleezy place has been selling a fake style roast beef and calling ir roast beef....I remember things...they haven't earned my patronage! Like a lot of people on this site ,I voted for good old Arby's as the worst chain a few years ago. It still is, in my humble opinion...I don't care if a few items in their line are "OK", their cheap imitation flagship product doesn't speak well for them...I'd rather pluck down a few bucks EVEN at Mickey D's....wait....did I say that??????

Though, I rarely eat it anymore, I still like like their signature sandwich, which I first sampled as a teen in Marietta, Georgia in 1968.  My Datsun stalled in front of their building, so I grabbed something to eat until Dad arrived.  (I pour Tony Roma's sauce on it these days, though.)

I enjoy arby's every now and then.  I used to prefer roy rogers roast beef sandwiches, but roy rogers are so hard to find nowadays.  I usually get 2 arby's roast beef sandwiches with curly fries.  Top the sandwiches off with A-1 sauce and I'm good to go. I'll have to see how the roast burger tastes.  It definitely intrigues me

Give   us   a   break.  You sound like a broken record.  Anyone who has spent any time on this board knows that you dislike Arby's and you dislike Pizza Hut.

Why do you have the need to keep posting on subjects that refer to these two places?  You don't like them, fine.  Sorry to burst your bubble but there are millions of people everyday who disagree with your assessment of these places.

There are a lot of factors that go into the decision-making processes of any business, including FF joints.  They balance quality, taste, price-point, appearance, and promotional aspects to determine what will be accepted by the mass market.

Many years ago, I was the Manufacturing Engineering Director for a process equipment company that produced equipment for Arby's.  As part of their development process for their products, they utilized numerous focus groups to determine what would appeal to the masses.  Guess what?  When they served up a roast beef sandwich that was from a real beef roast, it was roundly criticized.  As it turned out, the "real thing" sometime resulted in someone getting a little fat or grizzle in their sandwich and that was deemed unacceptable to the typical FF customer.  After hundreds of formulas were tried, they hit upon a sandwich that would compete in the FF marketplace, and what the consumer wanted was what they got- a roast beef sandwich that had piles of meat on it, was tender, had no hint of fat or grizzle, and had a flavor that they liked.

Arby's (or Pizza Hut) wasn't intended to compete with the Mom & Pop RF establishment.  So, with all due respect, give it a rest.

And there are millions of people who are wrong about Arby's - the joint stinks. And, yes, I'll repeat that assessment on these boards as many times as I like along with that person of good taste, leethebard.

Arby's may not always be my first choice when faced with a fast food decision, but to say they "stink" is simply an opinion.  I find their sandwiches a little pricy (coupons come in handy), but they have several menu items that are so good, they've even surprised me, one of the USA's pickiest and fussiest eaters.  (There are restaurants who hate to see me coming.)  Some menu items aren't so good, but that's true of just about every restaurant I know.

I just finished my 4th Turkey Club Chopped Salad a few minutes ago and still can't believe it came from a fast food restaurant.

I finally saw the commercial for this thing today.  Before that I actually thought this was something new.  MMM.  Quaint new name for their emulsified beef product sandwich.

I don't find the humor or the logic of calling their roast beef sandwiches burgers...all of a sudden.

When I first heard it, I said to myself.  They converted all those kitchens into facilities to make burger?  Wow!  What a gamble.

So, it still remains a chain with a lousy roast beef sandwich.  Right?
