Arby's Rueben Tue, 08/22/06 12:15 PM (permalink)
Ok... So, I saw on another thread, where someone mentioned Arby's Rueben...
I was out and about this AM, and saw Arby's, and thought well.. I am going to get one and report back.
Here is the Arby's CB Rueben. They also make a Turkey one according to the menu.
I thought those were called Rachel's when they used Turkey, but we'll just let that go by for now.
CB was thinly sliced, more like shaved. A tiny bit fatty, but I like some fat in my corned beef anyway: but all in all, good tasting corned beef.
Very tender, the marbled bread was very fresh, a little too much dressing, but otherwise, not a bad sandwich at all.
Needed a huge half sour pickle, but I let it slide, considering the source.
Priced out at $4.79 by itself.
I liked it....I would buy another one.

Come on, you're kidding, right? That's something left over from your famous Runza.

Actually, of the Market Fresh sandwiches I've had, the Rueben is by far my least favorite. But then, I'm from NY state, and even most NYers don't know how to make a good Rueben. Then again, I admit (as I did before) I'd take an Arby's Rueben over a whopper, big mac, Arby's roast beef, or taco bell just about anytime.

IMO, the marble rye bread at Arby's isn't rye enough for a Rueben. The corned beef, though fairly decent, lacks the right texture and depth of flavor of a really good corned beef. The cheese was good, the dressing isn't quite right either though - a little too much like a national brand thousand island, which is another dressing that is often made incorrectly.

On the other hand, the nice part of the Arby's version is that it isn't overgrilled and sloppy, which is a common mistake. So, overall, it's not a bad value. And it beats the hell out of most fast food joints' offerings, aside from maybe a Chipotle salad,...the MArket Fresh sandwiches are even much better than the "flagship" roast beef at Arby's.

Speaking of salads, my only downer with the market fresh salads is that 2 of the 3 salads use breaded chicken, instead of grilled chicken. Not sure if there's an option to change the chicken, but the Martha's Vinyard salad, which uses grilled chicken, may be one of the best salads in the fast food franchise business right now.

thanks for the pics and your review/experience roossy.

I eat the BLT there but was not pleased with the Rueben. I couldn't get past the spongy bread...it's just not right.

BLT's and Ruebens are my favorite sandwiches period so I'm always on the lookout for a good one anywhere. This is a tough market for Ruebens.

I've tried the rueben but it's so-so, I do think their BLT is pretty decent. It's hard to find a regular sandwich around here other than ones made from home.

I couldn't find the sauerkraut on mine until I pulled it apart and looked for it. Turns out it's not really sauerkraut, but something that was once cabbage and has been cooked to within an inch of its life and rinsed so thoroughly there is literally NO taste left to it. I also found the meat to be tasteless and entirely too chewy. The bread's not bad, though.

In all, one of the worst things I've eaten there. Glad somebody likes them, though...I'd hate for them to have spent all that money advertising for nothing.

Ok... No, that isnt leftover Runza....
Do you see any purple cabbage?

Yes, there is sauerkraut.. Had to really look for it, though.

Yes, the bread was LIGHTLY toasted....

IMHO, the bread is way too thick.
Rather have more meat and more sauerkraut, but Hey...It's Arbys for gosh sakes.....

What about the MANHATTAN KOSHER DELI RESTAURANT, 105 South Kings Hwy.
                    It's Kosher.

also, a quick google search brought up some promising sounding deli's:
                    Vito's Italian Deli
4488 Socastee Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC

                    Pacino's Italian Deli
                    3103 S Highway 17, Murrells Inlet, SC

                    Manny's Deli & Subs
1701 S Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC

worth a try before a second trip to Arby's anyway.

Reuben fanciers are pretty picky. From what I've seen and read here I don't think I'll be ordering that one. Maybe they should just call it a corned beef and swiss sandwich on marbled rye with Thousand Island dressing.

I havent tried the reuben yet, but from the posts i've read, i'll stick with the chicken salad if I stop at Arby's anytime soon. I had one before and it was decent.

I do not think that every rueben at every Arby's is the same. As always, it depends on whether the person making it cares about the product going out or just does not give a damn.

                                      Ok, please note this:

                                      It's spelled REUBEN, not RUEBEN.

Wow! I’d be concerned about my blood pressure if something as insignificant as a misspelled word got me that excited.

So you're saying people should search this site for negative opinions before trying a given restaurant? Taste is a personal thing, especially my nonstandard weird tastes in food, and unless people are reporting that a restaurant continually sends people to the ER with food poisoning, I'd rather try the place myself and make up my own mind, then diss the hell out of it if I'm not happy. I'd expect anyone who was tired of reading those kind of complaints to ignore them and move on to another thread. At least that's what I do.

I myself need a calculator to add up the restaurants I've been completely satisfied with, restaurants that have been lambasted in print and word of mouth. Even a few here. And it works the other way too, restaurants that get praise heaped upon them that turn out to be a nightmare.

EDIT: Looks like the post I was responding to deleted itself.

What! I thought that was the whole point of fast food! I want my Chicken McPellets in Paris to taste exactly like they do in Providence. You wouldn't want to try something different would you? That could be dangerous!

Yup, I have high blood pressure, and sometimes words push me right over the edge!

Actually, since sometimes people were misspelling reuben twice in their comments, I assumed it wasn't a typo, and was trying to set them straight. I'm just that kind of unselfish gal. (Yeah, right).

Tell me you don't hate me, Roossy. And you too, Xannie.
