My first experience at a Waffle House was about 6 weeks ago in Ohio.  I have been back probably 5-6 times since.  The wait staff never stops cleaning.  I am very, very, VERY picky about cleanliness and this WH is immaculate.  The wait staff is all women who are super friendly. As a bonus, the breakfast is very good!

I am sure that WH is not the same across the USA but the ones around Knoxville are outstanding.

Yes, like all chain establishments, you'll run into great locations and not-so-great locations.  A friend of mine has been with WH for a couple of decades and runs a really tight ship.  I wouldn't hesitate eating at any of her sites.

Never been to one, in fact, I don't ever remember seeing one anywhere I've ever been in the US, which is most of it. Strange.

With better than 1500 locations, it is hard to see how our Roadfood friend missed one.  My first visit was north of Atlanta in Marietta around 1964.  That was 47 years ago and I still visit them for breakfast.  I even get breakfast in the evening.

I understand that some folks do not prefer them.  That is there is chocolate and vanilla.  You go where you wanna.

I've lived in PA, OH, WA, NY, and driven the length of the country 3 times, and up and down the east coast, and have never seen one that I can remember. I don't think I'd make a roadtrip just to go to one, but it's likely that I'll stop at the first one I see at this point.

There's about 1600 of them in 25 States. Happy Hunting!

While I do stop at WH when I travel, I find it more of a convenience for a quick, predictable breakfast than for a quality breakfast.   I find there is little difference in the flavor between the eggs, toast & hash browns.   I figure it's the same oil being slopped freely on all three.  It is, however, a treat to have country ham - an item not typically found outside of the southern states.

Never have tried the waffles.  Does anyone order waffles at the WH?

Someone must have. They've sold 877,388,027 Waffles since 1955---and still counting. We should start a pool to see when they will hit the 1 BILLION mark!

I have never stopped at the Waffle House and not ordered waffles and hashbrowns.  They are nice and thin and crispy and hot.

My Bride likes the Pecan Waffle, done crispy. You can also get Apple Cinnamon Oat, Chocolate Chips, Blueberry or Strawberry

I have been to several Waffle Houses, primarily in the Southeast.  I am not a fan of their waffles. but I really like their hash browns, which seem to have become a focal point of their menu.
As an FYI, there is also "Huddle House", which is a spin-off of Waffle House.  The Huddle House locations do seem cleaner, and I like their food a notch better than WH.  The breakfast menus are very similar, and I like the hash browns there, too.

There are not as many Huddle Houses as WH's, and they are in 19 states, primariy in the southeast with some exceptions.
For those of you with cleanliness issues with WH, you might want to give Huddle House a try.  They at least "seem" cleaner, as a whole.

I'd hate to see the health reports of some of the Roadfood joints I've been to!

As long as the grill is hot enough to kill e-coli and salmonella, I'm ok with WH.

and anything that happens to crawl onto it will die & cook instantly. just a little extra meat in your western omellete.

Yes, WH waffles are quite good and made with half & half, but I usually order the eggs & hashbrowns which are always good.  Huddle House is excellent, though, and has a much larger menu.  The old Omelet Shoppe chain was good, but I think all their locations are gone now.

Joe---I didn't know Sal Monella got kilt.  I was only talkin wid him last time I was in Brooklyn.  And in Brooklyn we ain't got no Waffle House, who needs waffles anyhow.

The old Omelet Shoppe chain was good, but I think all their locations are gone now.

Unless there is a new chain called the Omelette Shoppe, they are not only alive and well, but as recently as three years ago opening new locations. They're good, but ridiculously expensive for what you get. They charge twice as much as any other chain breakfast place I've been to.

                                            Edit:
Just looked at their website...apparently it is a new chain. Turns out the one I know here has exactly four locations, all in Michigan. Two in Grand Rapids and two in Traverse City.

You're not going to drive to Ohio to find a good one? And here I thought you liked me.

The Omelet Shoppe corporate entity is gone but there are some former franchisee's still operating under the name. They're few and far between.

I found 2 or 3 listed around Birmingham, but their phones are disconnected.  However, there's at least one New Orleans Famous Fried Chicken left in Columbia, Tennessee!

There is a "huddle house" section on the Waffle House menu. I really didn't realize there were any stand alone Huddle House restaurants left.

I do like the thin waffles that Waffle House serves. I'm not crazy about the thick ones.

I believe that's the now defunct Toddle House you're referring to on the Waffle House menu.  Huddle House is a fierce competitor of WH.  Joe Rogers, Sr. worked for Toddle House before he left and formed WH.  Interestingly, Toddle House was founded by the father of FedEx founder Fred Smith.  Wow, what history.
