Does anyone else out there subscribe to Arizona Highways Magazine? I think I have been a subscriber since 1988 or so.

I used to get it while living in Germany, it sure was nice to read and look at during those wet, rainy German winters. In fact, I would imagine that it had a great deal to do with our decision to move to AZ from Germany when the opportunity arose.

I notice in the letters section, there are always folks writing in from various parts of the US, and all over the world. Just wondered if any fellow roadfooders are fans of the periodical.

Gary Ladd on Lake Powell
“Lake Powell is insanely photogenic, thanks to the interaction of
the lake and the surrounding landscape. The interface of lake and land produces strong graphic patterns, the foundation of most pleasing photographs. As its water level fluctuates, its bays, islands, sandy beaches and side canyons evolve, and the lake’s edge offers endless photographic potential. To me, Lake Powell’s spirit—although admittedly blemished by environmental questions—is pure magic.”

I don't subscribe to the periodical, but I agree strongly with the caption on the Lake Powell photo. We love to explore the area...and at times I must admit I miss the Mojave country of my youth!!

My career in the arts began with formal art classes at a all boys Catholic High school in upstate NY................ our instructor was a X commercial artist turned Jesuit priest and he taught us art from the beautiful pictures in the Arizona Highways Magazine. There was another magazine that was made up of nothing but watercolors not photos that we also used in class . Do any of you remember the Ford Times?
the year was 1954 and ever since when I see a copy of Arizona Highways Magazine I think of how my love for the arts developed from its pages........................... Frank

I love AZ Highways and its other publications. I also subscibed for a while to Sunset Magazine, which I think is cool - since I live on the East Coast no one ever heard of it, so it was "unique" here....

My Great Uncle Al worked for the Arizona Highway department and gave my grandparents a subscription to the magazine until their deaths in 1986. And my grandparents kept the magazines for a long time as a lot of people do with National Geographic. I looked at those magazines all the time and loved the pictures and places depicted. I have had the luck to visit a great deal of Arizona and I realize those magnificent photoes only hint at the beaty of that marvelous place. I hope to return with Sam and Trudy to visit some of the wonders again and to enjoy the roadfood delights of Tucson, Phoenix and other places.

My wife keeps asking me when I'm going to throw away the piles of magazines I've collected, I always find an excuse..."Oh' there's a good hike in this one, or I wanted to visit this area this summer, etc. I just enjoy going back and looking through the old ones sometimes...

Sunset magazine is also fun, I usually buy it off the shelf. Has great info, not only about AZ but also the rest of the Southwest. Great recipes are also to be found, a big plus in my book!

I love Arizona Highways!! I have had a subscription for some time now. Living here is much more enjoyable than reading it in a magazine. Wickenburg was featured in a recent issue and it was a very well written article. Hope you all can come "Out Wickenburg Way" and experience our unique brand of hospitality!! Pop into the American Legion and say howdy to me any time on the weekends. If you are lucky, you might get to enjoy one of our many BBQ's that we host on most holidays.

I just found out that Good Morning America is doing a piece on Wickenburg on Monday, April 30. for their annual road trip segment. Hope you all tune in as this is a really great place to visit. Hopefully you will all get to see me on national T.V. I'll let you all know the night before what I will be wearing so you can all look out for me and my daughter Ivy. I'll have a Roadfood.com sign so you will all know who I am!!!

Talk to you all later and have a great week!!

My mistake, it is Good Morning Arizona who is doing a piece on Wickenburg. Channel 3 if you are a local. I will still be there so everyone who watches will see me with my Roadfood.com sign.
