Thanks, everyone.  We've decided on Macayo's, so our drive to Tucson will be broken up with a good meal.

That should work out fine. And don't forget to get your Sonoran Hot Dogs when you get to Tucson. Recommend
El Guero Canelo's. Go to the ORIGINAL one 12th Av. (South Tucson). Don't be turned off by the outward appearance of the Dive--They're good!
Take Pictures and you'll have a story to tell when you get back home!

Hi All!  Interesting 4 days of eating.  We decided to drive the two hours from Phoenix to Tucson in a straight shot, and had lunch at El Charro in the Ventana area of town.  The Prickly Pear Margaritas were fabulous, and the CHEESE CRISP!!!!!!!!!!!  Yowza....thin tortilla, baked for several minutes, and ours was topped with chicken chunks, avocado, cheese, some type of Mexican cheese, and BACON!   In our ignorance, we thought a cheese crisp was a simple appetizer, like skinny breadsticks or something.  Discovering Cheese Crisps was a highlight.
I was definitely underwhelmed by the El Charro Tres Leches Cake, although their Flan is excellent.  Enjoyed their tamales very much, I hunt down tamales everywhere.  My husband had the humongous burrito, and thought it was doughy, and would not order it again.

El Guero Canelo's Sonoran Hotdogs were terrific, and I got to meet the owner, the guy was on Man Vs Food.  Nice guy named Daniel.  He strongly pushed us to order his Carne Asada, and it was very very good, buttery, tender bits of beef.

Rather disappointed in the Huevos Rancheros at the Mosaic Cafe.  My husband and I were really surprised that anyone would think they were good, they were less than mediocre.

Also ate at a Tea Room at Tohono Chul Park, a place we went birding and walking.  My husband ordered an omelet that had big chunks of bacon in it.  Can't remember exactly what it was, but we'd go there again.  Good coffee, very nice setting, and the true highlight was the scone of the day with orange marmalade and a mound of soft butter.  Yummy!

The trip flew by, I am really sad to be home, that's why I just booked my flights for November.  LOL

Thanks for all the help on the boards.  We're going to shoot for Santa Fe in 2012, so we can experience the world's best green chili cheeseburgers.  Tucson in November will allow us to visit more restaurants and taquerias, can't wait.

THANX for the report. Sounds like you had some highs & Lows. Remember the highs, forget the lows. Next trip in Nov, plan a side trip to Tubec. It's about 45 minutes south of Tucson on I-19. Quaint, artsey community. Galleries, native art etc. There's an Arts Festival on 11/6-7/11 in Tubac.
