Aruba

Earthquakes and hurricanes aside, I am supposed to go to Aruba for about a week. Anyone have some favorite restaurants there? Someone on here must have been to Aruba before. Or at least somewhere to avoid, I can't see myself making return trips that often!

DirtDude, Aruba is the safest place to be during hurricane season.  It has never been hit by a hurricane, only gets about 2" of rain a year and has a constant temperature and trade wind.

A MUST place is Madame Janettes.  Here is some other info, but don't miss Madame Janettes.

Rent a jeep and have a blast.

Thanks kevin and joe, very useful posts, they should cover what I need perfectly.

Joe- the people that own house we are renting said to get a car for the week to get around the island. Do you need a Jeep to get into the rougher terrain?

Jeeps are more fun than cars. Feel the breeze, enjoy the Sun, enjoy something different!!!
    Anyone can rent a car---
A true adventurer rents a Jeep!!!
    Better yet---Rent a Motor Scooter!!

DirtDude, If you want to tour the West side of the island and the National Park(desert)you will need 4-wheel drive.  All dirt and sand roads.

I guess that depends on whether or not DirtDude is a blonde female.  If so, Aruba may not be that safe a place.

It has been about twenty years since I visited. Drive around the island for sure.
If you are a scuba diver or can snorkel be sure and see the World War II ship wreck the Antilla. It can be seen from the surface. It is a 400 foot German cargo ship that supplied German U-boats. Wind Surfing is very popular in Aruba with the consistent wind. I remember well the Divi Divi trees that are pointing to the west because of the constant trade wind.

I own a timeshare in Aruba. May I suggest Madame Janette. You have dinner in an outdoor garden with twinkling lights. Fof steak-El Gaucho Argentinian beef. For local cuisine Nos Canucu (try the Keshi yena). Seafood try the Old Fisherman and Wacky Wahoo.

Eat until you tell the wait staff to stop serving you various meats.    The salad bar is well stocked.

Ooops, I put some pics up for my family but I forgot to post them here. Found some good food, thanks for all the suggestions. Madame Janette's was a really cool place to eat at. I enjoyed the atmosphere a lot. I'll try and get some photos up this weekend.
