I've been around since 2004 (according to my profile, I don't really remember) and I've often wondered what was my first post. Probably something idiotic, like most of my other 1404 posts. But it's still fun to read what other people have to say, and make my own contributions. Congrtaulations and keep at it!

Now you've surpassed 1000 posts! It's so easy when on a roll. Keep it up! Try a mussel... you may have to hyphenate your name.

Have to laugh............mussels,when I was a kid in the 50's and 60's..........covered the jetties on Cape Cod where I grew up. Like lobster in the 1800's.....noone wanted them! Nowadays, I'm sure they are picked clean! But i know where to still get some big ones that are great steamed in a little white wine and garlic!

When I was a kid I could never understand how anyone could eat mussels. After all, they were these disgustingly greenish yellow mucous-like blobs that would slide out of the mussel shells that gulls would drop on the rocks at the beach in order to break them open. Sure, the gulls ate that stuff, but people? No way!

IN Order of preference... 1. Scallops 2. Oysters (almost any format) 3. Clams, Fried, steamed, etc 4. Abalone 5. Calimari ... ,,.. ... Then Mussels..steamed usually. A last choice for me. BTW, Congrats on the 1000th post. I enjoy reading your comments.

Those seagulls sure knew what they were eating. If they could only first dip them in a nice garlic, wine and butter sauce.
