Asheville: Ruby's is #1

Saw on the www that Ruby's BBQ was voted No. 1 in Asheville, NC, by the local newspaper, and confirmed with a delicious and large lunch that they know what they're talking about. The pulled pork was really pulled, and very tender and juicy - sauce was not needed, although large bottles of every type are available. I tried both a mustard sauce and a vinegar sauce, and liked both. The ribs were VERY meaty, tender, and well-sauced with a tasty tomato base. Wish I had more of them. The waitress suggested the mac and cheese side, but I went for smashed potatoes (have never have any better) and baked beans (also a winner). The sides come in very large bowls. Ruby has a nice choice of local brews (I enjoyed one with 'coconut' in the name), and lots of atmosphere. Based on one great lunch, I'd put Ruby's in my personal top 10, and hope to get back soon. I was there about 4:00 p.m., and the doors were wide open. Place would be even better if they closed the doors and turned down the AC (or maybe they don't have AC, as many in Asheville don't). 8 Beverly Rd., on the east side of Asheville, not far off I-40 and I-240. PS: The newspaper also ranked Moose Cafe No. 1 for 'best breakfast', and maybe it is best in Asheville, but it was disappointing and average. They could learn how to make an omlet from IHOP.
