Atlanta Food Trucks

The Atlanta Street Food movement is alive and doing well. Recently organizers have been teaming up with non profit groups and local civic organizations to host Food Truck Parks. These events work similar to doing festivals where the organizers have applied for blanket permits from the county. The only difference is that there are only food trucks. Atlanta councilman Hall is even trying to get local ordnance passed to protect the integrity of the Food Parks. I foresee some kind of involvement from the HD coming. We already have this in another county we do a monthly market at. We apply for a temporary permit ($50) and get inspected on the first day of the event. There are at least a half dozen of these events taking place every week in Atlanta. You could easily do one a day and on some days do both a lunch at one location and a dinner at another location. We are in the process of having new graphics applied on our trailer and have designed a new food menu. Since most of the food trucks offer some type of specialty cuisine we are going to offer signature sandwiches cooked on our sandwich press. We are also adding a couple of vegetarian sandwiches and as the weather cools soups. Hopefully we will be doing our first Food Truck Park in about two weeks. For any of you who have read any of my previous post you know that most Georgia cities are not street food friendly. All of the local municipalities have adopted the state code that requires a commissary for any mobile food vendor. Presently these Food Truck Parks are operating in a gray area. Even though they are operating legally we know there is going to be some kind of requirements from the HD. Of course that may not be a bad idea. Since most of us have a considerable amount invested in our operations it will be beneficial to require everyone to be on the same playing field. Most of us have commercially built trucks and trailers that meet or exceed HD requirements. Those who have built their own will be required to build them to HD code. This way we are all operating HD approved units. The fewer the problems we have with HD inspections the better for all of us and the better the chance for the Food Truck Parks to continue. Look forward to seeing everyone on the streets of Atlanta…
