In Augusta, the big crowds are at Sconyers BBQ, and I've never been unhappy there. It's at I-520 and Peach Orchard Rd. exit I think.

I plan to take hwy 278 out of Augusta, to Barnwell, Allendale, Brunson,& Hampton, SC. Then Hwy 68 to I-95 , then hwy 17 and 21 on into Beaufort, eventually ending up at Harbor Island for some much needed R&R. Thanks,

I think (?) you pass the Walterboro exit--try Duke's.

I made the trip, and there is basically nothing on the road. However, McPhearson's Serious Barbeque, in Port Royal is excellent. Good atmosphere, pulled pork, etc. I did not personally care for the Brunswick stew, but it did have big chunks of chicken and pork in it. Thanks for your comments. Uncle John
