Buffetbuster they do make it themselves. It was really meaty,a little on the mild side although the creamy cheese and slaw may have overwhelmed it a little. It's a really good dog though.

So today was not as much about the food as the conversation. I finally met Michael Stern and enjoyed lunch at DeShawns's Seafood and Chicken in North Augusta,SC which Michael has already reviewed. We had a nice visit and planned to do it again. Fair warning. LOL.

I had blackened salmon, mac&cheese, and turnips plus a cup of catfish stew. Everything was freshly made and so very tasty. I tasted Michael's baked potato potato salad though and that was the best thing I have tasted in quite a while. Hopefully Michael will post a pic of it here. I'm sure his photos will outshine mine.

Unfortunately, I have found it difficult to get a good shot of the baked potato salad, which really is outstanding. This is about the best I've been able to do. And yes, I very much look forward to some good eating hereabouts with Chickenplucker, who has opened my eyes to so many excellent eateries in and around Augusta.

Michael-
Sounds like you will need to go back and eat that baked potato salad over and over until you get the photo right.  I feel sorry for you already!

Actually, that is a really good shot.

So Monday was cold and rainy here and we were in the mood for something to warm us up. I had never experienced Vietnamese food but seeing the steaming bowls of Pho on food shows had me interested. I am a convert now....Pho Bac is our one and only choice but it turned out to be a really good meal.

Some of the reviews mentioned poor service but we all know that dishes like this are prepared to order and don't do well sitting under heat lamps. I tend to take most of the reviews in stride. The Summer Rolls and Jicama Rolls were a nice start to our meal.

Next up was our Pho. My wife had a seafood bowl that contained very good shrimp and squid. She is a huge soup fan and was very pleased.

I had the House Special which contained Beef Balls,Flank,Brisket,Tendon, and Tripe. I loved this combination.

We will certainly be back to try other items and look forward to trying other Vietnamese restaurants. I want to give this one 2 thumbs up but
have nothing to compare it too.

No need to compare it to anything else, as long as you and your wife enjoyed it.   We love Vietnamese food, although the places here in Pittsburgh are nothing special.

After a BBQ binge last week I was ready for some southern soul food. Big Mama's Soulfood at 2803 Wrightsboro RD filled the bill.

While the chicken was a little overcooked to my liking the fried green tomatoes, mac&cheese, and biscuit were just extremely good. The fried green tomatoes were cooked to order and piping hot.

My wife opted for liver as she usually does when it's offered. it was cooked just past medium and was very tender. The collards and rutebagas were on point also.

And we couldn't resist Red Velvet cake. We decided on it as we walked past the case while being seated. No words needed here.

Probably my favorite goto restaurant in Augusta is Nacho Mama's at 976 Broad ST.
http://www.nachomamasaugusta.com/

In 1978 Augusta had 2 malls to open in the suburbs which devastated the downtown area. Sound familiar? The area has seen a resurgence in recent years of bars, restaurants, and music venues. Nacho Mama's was the 1st cool place to open and they have continued leading the way. More of a burrito joint than a Mexican place but oh the burrito's are good.
I love the welcome motto.

Order at the counter and then listen for your name to be shouted over the music.LOL

Chips are pretty standard but the pico is freshly made and tasty.

This is what makes it one of my favorite places though. Mango Habanero Salsa made in house and is sooo addictive. Sweet, hot, creamy, cool goodness. I could eat a quart of this.

Looks good. I looked at their website menu and saw something listed called a 45. I'm not familiar with that configuration. Looks like beans and trimmings with a meat option. Just sits there on the plate like that or is it more special. Are you familiar with it?
