Not wanting to step on your post, Meuller's is great. But, if you are in Taylor, go to the RR tracks and see Vencil Mares, in his 80's, last living of the old pit masters, at the Taylor Cafe. If you like cue, you can hit both places easy.

Who has the best BBQ is always subjective, but Vencil makes the best Bohunk hot guts in the area. Every one should have it at least once.

I love Louis Mueller's BBQ. I have always considered it "the 'best of the best".
However, for all the times I've been to Taylor, I have never been-or even heard of, Taylor's Cafe. I will definitely try it next time i'm down that way from Dallas.
      Thanks for the tip.

Vencil set up right after WW 2. Taylor and Texas were segregated.Blacks lived on one side of the tracks and whites on the other. Vencil set up right by the tracks. Place has two doors and two bars. Blacks set on one side and whites the other. To this day they still come in to the joint through "their" doors. In talking to elderly law enforcement types, they told me as you can imagine, the place was really wild back in the day.

When we first moved to the area, I used to ask people from Taylor, "Who has the best BBQ, Meuller's or Mikeskas?" Almost everyone would tell me Taylor Cafe was the best. After I went there I laughed and figured the food critics that do the reviews were to afraid to go into the place. That's why Vencil wasn't on anybodies list.

Vencil is a very friendly guy. Not getting around now as good as he did a few years ago, but he is still there. Fascinating to talk to. Don't want to leave you with the wrong idea. The place is safe. And like I said, Vencil is the last of the old pit masters left.

I have to agree that Vencil's is one of the best. Not wanting to drive all the way to Lockhart from Georgetown, Taylor offers BBQ as good as and to some, better than Lockhart.
