It's gotta be something to do with the format here...normally on forums I have a really hard time telling who is posting what without avatars, but here it's never been a problem for me. But then this is the only forum I visit that uses this particular software, so I'm guessing that's it.

Chances are many would choose something with a political flavor.

    And we all know that's a 'no-no'.

Elsewhere, I use a line drawing of a bust of Adam Smith.

As I am an economist, businessman, and investor I believe that avatar to be wholly appropriate, but I am also sure that some here who would somehow take offense.

You got me thinking, but in all the years I've used online forums, I can only recall a handful of times someone chose a political-type avatar. Might just be that I didn't see them before moderators deleted them, but I also moderated a forum for years and never saw one. People tend to personalize them, since their avatar comes to stand for them.

I mostly use the Phins parrot from Margaritaville elsewhere, although there is one site where I use an actual picture of me.

I think we need to incorporate the ability to be able to post a personal Avatar!  This is the ONLY site I visit where there is no option to be able to do so!  Seems kinda strange to me to not be able to do so! JMO

Why is an avatar so important?

We've been here for many years without then and it's not a problem.

Without them no one is better than anyone else.

Also, it might have something to do with the space usage or whatever it's called.  Keeping the site free for those that don't become supporters.

Why is an avatar so important?   It's not that it's important it was merely a question out of curiosity!
Having a personal Avatar would personalize the poster other then having the standard one we currently have now!
As I mentioned before this is the ONLY site I ever visit that doesnt make use of personal Avatars.

To me it's not a big deal. On sites I frequent that have them I use something of a Masonic theme.

The little picture that lives by your name on most forums. Like a profile picture on Facebook, it shows up on all your posts.

I use this one avatar in most places. It is me, an architect, in front of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece.

They dont use avatars because some people would use pictures of a gut bucket with maggots , or pictures of certain parts of their or others anatomy. I like the way the site is now.

I love black cats.  We were going to get one but my wife wanted the tortoise's brother (at least the shelter said it was her brother).

Here he is 'hard at work'

What a handsome guy!  We had been feeding a feral cat who was all gray.  One day she showed up with three black kittens.  Two must have perished.......but the remaining kitten decided to get out of the chilly fall weather so he came into the house and ate.  The rest is history.  He likes to torment the Tortie!
