BBQ IN MISSISSIPPI

Hi, Doing a road trip from Memphis down HWY 61 to clarksdale and oxford. Would love suggestions for great food esp. BBQ. Thanks everyone

The obvious place is Abe's in Clarksdale, which has terrific 'que.

The tamales at Hick's in Clarksdale also get a big thumbs up.  I spent a week or so in Mississippi in December and you can find my trip report here, which may give you some good ideas.

We'll be in Greenville, MS next Friday (the 13th) for one of Doe's famous Steaks, and then in Memphis Saturday and part of Sunday doing a few places there. If your in the area join the fun. Jan and I will stay friday night  in Clarksdale and plan to do a Blues evening after our dinner in Greenville.

While you'll have a great time at Ground Zero, for a more "rustic" but just as safe time, I'd strongly suggest you check out Red's @395 Sunflower Ave  & MLK. You'll be very glad you did. If Red is cooking BBQ, which he does some weekends , you'll find it the best Q in town and that's not to be taken as a knock on Abe's or Hicks 2 fine places both. The roof leaks and the bathroom floor has a horrible pitch but this is the place a blues lover wants to hear blues in.
