BBQ School Question Thu, 01/25/07 4:28 PM (permalink)
I'm thinking about buying a course from Culinary Institute of Smoke-Cooking has anyone been involved with this school in any way? I figure anything that I learn is a plus and this is a home study course. Here’s a link www.bbqcookingschool.com

Honestly Jack? From what I've read about your bbq skills, I doubt you really need it unless you've got your eye on that "Master of Barbecue Certificate". While I'm sure you would learn a thing or two, for $300 you could probably gain that same info from various books.

If you're hankerin' for something more official than just book-reading, here's a course that only costs $200, takes just one day, they feed you, give an official apron, and the all-important "Master of Barbecue Certificate". The only problem is....you gotta come to Georgia. Hands on cooking!! -pb

The "Master of Barbecue Certificate". LMAO I've been selling Doctorates in BBQ and Smoking on EBay for some time. The certificates I make are pretty cool but I havn't put any on for awhile now.I never made one for my self. LOL But it looks like that school (Lost Mountain BBQ) would be fun also.

But the problem is with that kind of school you try to jam everything into a single day. So you (or at least I do) forget a lot of it. Heck I’ve cooked along side of some of the BBQ greats but you just can’t learn it all in a single day or even a weekend.

If this guys written material is as good as their credentials, it should be pretty good. If it’s all written down you can go over it forever and refresh your memory. I ordered it and I’ll let you know after I get it next week.
