BBQ brown gravy

I was inspired by another thread concerning BBQ joint names to visit a local stand that serves a brown gravy with their 'que. Mr. V's BBQ in Denison, TX serves beef brisket, pork ribs, deep fried jalapenos, as well as, a grill menu and other items. But what is unique is the brown gravy that is served alongside the meat. It's very subtle...doesn't jump out at you like tomato based sauces or eastern vinegar sauces. One thing is for sure, IT'S HOT! All heat and not sweet! If you like the meat to be the main attraction, or don't like heavy saucing, this is for you. I would like to find out if there are other places that use a gravy like this. This certainly isn't the typical Texan sauce so does this come from the South?

Sounds more like South of the Border sauce to me.
