BBQ in Chas. Mon, 03/21/05 10:34 AM (permalink)
Is there any good BBQ in the North Chas./Goose Creek area? I have been to Robert's on Rivers and it was horrible! Duke's in Summerville wasn't any better either! Kelly's BBQ in Ladson was OK, but not like "Smithfield's Chicken and BBQ"! I grew up in NC and Smithfield's was awesome. I just wish it wasn't just a NC thing. Any of those old timers out there know where I can get some of that good vinager based BBQ like Smithfield's?

I fear you'll have a very hard time finding eastern style BBQ in the Charleston area. Tickle your tastebuds and eat at Sweatman's in Holly Hill.

There's a little more info on Sweatman's. Do a search here and through google; you'll find plenty to read.

Their hours are very limited. Maybe only Friday and Saturday. I can't remember. Be sure to call before you make the trip. And arrive hungry.

This is for Carolinagirl. I lived in Summerville and Charleston. There was a place in what they later called North Charleston. They had this shredded pork BBQ. It was served with a thick hash-like BBQ sauce. Hot, or mild. Relatively decent and AA-u-can -eat. It was in a small shopping center. Food was OK, price was cheap.!

I don't know about Duke's in Summerville, but the Duke's in Walterboro was absolutely Stellar when I visited 2 1/2 years ago.
