BBQ in New York City

I can proudly state that after a 60 pound weight loss, I'm ready for some BBQ. I want to INDULGE. What's everyone's take on the new wave of BBQ that's overtaking Manhattan? I adore Blue Smoke, but I want something new. I've heard that Pearson's on the UES has gone WAY downhill. I'm saving a hike to Dinosaur for my birthday. So....WHERE SHOULD I EAT?????

Daisy Mae's on 43rd and 11th has some kick axe dry rub ribs. Also great sides-- creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, greens. I really enjoy this place. Just went to RUB, the KC Baron of BBQ's new place on 23rd. So so. Could buy meat by the pound. Very good pulled pork with nice vinegar sauce. The brisket even though with plenty of smoke and a nice pink ring was dry. After central Texas, all brisket pales in comparison so it's hard to be objective. But this place was dry enough to use sauce, and I never add sauce. The ambience was like any Manhattan mid-range restaurant. Nothing bbq about it. Great smoke smell inside, though. They seem to bbq anything-- duck, mutton, etc. The overall experience would rate as a upper scale Dallas BBQ, which is sad given that the latter is rotisserie.

I've only has Daisy Mae's from their cart. The pulled pork sandwich was very good, but EIGHT DOLLARS? An insane price for food from a cart, that must be assembled prior to eating. I will try to make my way out west to 11th ave, but I hear that there's no seating there. Is this true?

Hi Wigo Yes.. there is no seating at Daisy Mae's. If you take out- needless to say... the temperature is not great when you get it home. I have had food delivered from there, and same problem. I found their food to be ok.. and just ok. I found the pulled pork to have too much mustard. I too, have been to RUB- although I went a week after it opened. I disliked it. Having toured the country- Lockhart Texas, Taylor Texas, North Carolina, Memphis, and enjoying the best bbq in the country- I was thoroughly disappointed in RUB. Maybe things have changed by now, though. I really like Dinosaur, though it has it's critics. It's a fun lively place, with good food. Blue Smoke is fine- though I much prefer Dinosaur. I would order, the ribs, pork, or the great chicken. As was mentioned earlier- BBQ brisket it truly king in Texas, and no place else... Though- good brisket can be bought in NY at any great Jewish style deli here.
