BBQ via FedEx Wed, 12/10/03 2:01 PM (permalink)
Before anyone skewers me, I know it's far, far preferable to actually go to Memphis or Taylor or KC or Charlotte or Atlanta, but that's not possible at this point....if you were to order BBQ from one of the fine places which offer it via FedEx, which would it be? We live in CT and may decide to skip the whole idea and just drive to Uncle Willie's in Waterbury, but I'd like to hear your suggestions.....thanks!

Here is a link to Mr. Coopers - rated highly by Texas Monthly - I have been there many, many times and it is excellent, traditional Texas-style barbeque. My fathere has mail ordered from them several times and has been pleased.

And here's a link to Mr. Black's in Lockhart, in my extremely humble
opinion , the best brisket and links to be had in Texas. I've never ordered from them as they are only about 2 hrs 45 mins from my driveway, but folks I know who have have been very pleased. Stick with the brisket and links, which Edgar Black purportedly has said he wishes that's all he served - it's what he (and I) think they do best.

Kreuz Market in Lockhart also has a website and ships.

I didn't know Kreuz ships! I have never been ther and would love to try it!

sidebar: Hermitt have you ever had burgers at a place called Rozonskys (or something like that) on 34th street? We passed it today on our way to lunch at Fiesta Taco and it sounded familiar.

BTW- Fiesta Tacos has their holiday ordering sheets out now if you like tamales for the holidays!

I ate at the Dreamland in Mobile. It was 2:00PM and it was packed and it was a big place. They pit BBQ'ed the ribs. Took them off the grill and I had them hot and fresh. Excellent

Lone Star, you're referring to Roznovsky's. It has been at that location for at least 30 years, and probably longer. They do make a pretty good burger, sort of a thin patty-drugstore thing. At least, that's how I recall it. I haven't been there in probably 25 years.

Rosnovsky's was all the rage back in the 70s for burgers; I never got to go. I don't know how long they've been out there on 34th. It's one of Allison Cook's favorite burgers; I went just once and was underwhelmed, but, like she said burgers are a very personal thing.

I noticed the first city you mentioned, flattop5, was Memphis. Good choice!

I'd recommend Corky's or The Rendevouz...both ship via FedEx. (Rendevouz for dry ribs and Corky's for pulled pork) Rendevouz phone number is 1-800-HogsFly. Corky'website is www.corkysbbq.com

p.s. Never knew pigs had a brisket. Boy, you Texans sure are creative!

I am from Memphis, and I know Corky's delivers via FedEx. Rendevouz is ran by Yankees, with dry ribs. I am not bad mouthing them, come to Memphis, the restaurant is right across the street from the Peabody Hotel on Union Avenue. They serve a different kind of BBQ, dry with spices.

Both the Peabody and Rondy's are famous in Memphis, travel south I-240, the highway turns into Riverside Drive (on the Mississippi), then Union will be the next left after Beale street. From the Peabody Hotel, Beale is one block over and there is a place called Bluff City Cafe which is always full, and I am sure that they sell BBQ. If you get lost, any Memphian can point the correct way to where you are looking for.

Actually, in the Fiesta circular this week, pork brisket strips, $.99 lb, Cry-o-vac. Last week, HEB had 'em for $1.19. I'm not a butcher, but I think these are the cuts usually cut up and sold as 'country style ribs.' They are not boneless. I've only noticed these in the last few months or so. Both these markets have large ethnic customer bases so this may be the way they're sold in other cultures.

IMHO, the best Georgia barbeque comes from Williamson Brothers in Marietta, and they happily ship. We ordered 25 pounds a month ago to feed the people from my DH's office here in lovely Cleveland, OH, and they loved it! We order their sauce by the case.

You do have to give at least 3 - 4 days notice, though, to get it in the deep freeze, first.
