Are you looking for 'fancy'? You might want to head a little bit south to Sarasota to try the Columbia or Cafe L'Europe on St Armand's Key.

Try the Beach House Restaurant, 200 Gulf Dr. N. in Bradenton Beach. It is directly on the Gulf and is THE place to watch sunsets. Generally American food leaning naturally to seafood. Get there early as parking is tight and you will probably want to eat outside on the huge waterfront deck.

I THINK WE ARE LEANING TOWARD A MORE LAID BACK ATMOSPHERE, NOTHING TOO FANCY. THE BEACH HOUSE ROY RECOMMENDED SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT PLACE FOR US TO TRY. ARE STONE CRABS IN SEASON IN OCTOBER? HOPEFULLY WE CAN FINE A PLACE THAT SERVES THEM.

Stone crab season opens on Oct 15. Moores Stone Crab Resturaunt is the best. Just head south and take the first left at the north end of Longboat Key. Call first to see if they have any claws. Casual, great service and atmosphere. The Colony on Longboat is highly rated. You will need a jacket, no tie. Euphemia Haye is also highly rated although I was not all that impressed. They are known for their duck. There are a number of fun/funky places close to where you are staying. I too would recommend the Beach House for the view. The drive down to St. Armand's Circle is nice, don't speed.

We took some business guests to the Beach House. Rain chased us inside but quit just as our food was being delivered. We moved back outside and got to see a spectacular sunset. Just as the sun was touching the water, a sail boat passed in front of it. Our guests accused us of staging it. Cakes
