I stopped watching the NBA when they stopped calling palming, travelling, and hacking.  All the teams play and, except for the uniforms, look alike.  So, what's to root for?

    Jerry Dunphy?

Foodbme:  I agree with you.  If a news story is so earthshattering why do we have to wait until 11PM to hear it?  Worse than that, they air it at 11:27 PM and it's just a brief mention.

    BREAKING????

I finally figured it out ...  "Breaking News!" was an entendre double.

Chris Paul is a point guard.  In that capacity he leads fast BREAKS!
As he is new to the Clippers, by definition that fact is NEWS.

Therefore, this was quite literally "Breaking News!".

Both CNN & Fox News advertise "Breaking News" or "Developing Story" constantly throughout the day because it's really hard to move away from something listed that way and you want to see what the story is.  Good move on their part

Jerry died several years ago, Christine retired as far as I know and Chuck now does prime time.

Christine came in to the retail store where I was working in the '70s because we were running outdoor lights during an energy crunch.  She was escorted right out.  Not all that nice.

I repaired Jerry's bar and mesh fireplace screen after the Northridge Quake.  What a nice man.

I've never met Chuck but there's still tomorrow.

They used to call them "news breaks" when they were, in fact, news promos ...

"Welcome to the Eye-Action-Witness-News-Watch News Break ... A dangerous rapist, with a penchant for home invasions has escaped ... we'll tell you if he's in your neighborhood at 11 ... Meanwhile that's all the news for now ... "

    That really riled me.

A weatherman who keeps getting elected Mayor of Tolucca Lake can't be all bad.
Funny how some of those 'personalities seem to outlive their surroundings. I can't believe that Vicki Vargas is still working, much less broadcasting.
Colleen Williams did a career day presentation in my school 12 years ago. She was good then and maintains a class act as an Anchor today.
Chuck Henry's high point was when he got caught in a San Berdoo forest fire and literally ran for his life with the fire crew he was with. That film was a real classic news grabber.

Was Springfield, Massachusetts part of Canada back in December, 1891?  Because pretty much every source on the face of the Earth lists them as the place and time that Naismith created the game of basketball.

If basketball was a Canadian sport ice would somehow be involved.

    Screaming Chicken,
While he further developed the game in Springfield, the original concept was born in Canada.
"Dr. James Naismith is known world-wide as the inventor of basketball. He was born in 1861 in Ramsay township, near Almonte, Ontario, Canada. The concept of basketball was born from Naismith's school days in the area where he played a simple child's game known as duck-on-a-rock outside his one-room schoolhouse. The game involved attempting to knock a "duck" off the top of a large rock by tossing another rock at it. Naismith went on to attend McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada."
He moved the game indoors when he got to Springfield and that's when the Peach Baskets came into play.

Yes, Walter Winchell was more enervating than those tedious "FOX NEWS ALERTS".

As it becomes part of one's personal history I prefer the old way that news used to circulate.  The 1:50 (EST) bell was about to ring in Martha Thompson's 11 grade English class when our principal came on the school intercom and said "Here's something you kids need to hear."  An AM radio broadcast crackled on with the words "There is a potential tragedy happening here in Dallas.  Only 20 minutes ago shots were heard ...".

Every time the wind blows, both Youngstown and Cleveland break into programming to tell us.  Worse, they both always interrupt JEOPARDY!.  That alone should be grounds for lisence revocation (especially WKBN).  Since I'm taking the online test for Jeopardy, I need all the help I can get.

As for other breaking news, CBS used to interrupt AS THE WORLD TURNS whenever the slightest thing happened, then gave 30 minutes of analysis.  Dan Rather would then say something like "we'll have more on tonight's CBS Evening News, or we;ll break in if the situation warrants."  That's if the President blows his nose.  I would hate to think what he would have done if it was something serious.
