Bacon Ice Cream

Oh yes, bacon ice cream. I just finished some. There's a small "upscale" take out place called Spoon in NY that makes their own ice cream (flavors like Lavendar Mint) and today that had bacon. It was totally WEIRD. The ice cream was a caramel color and flavor with pieces of bacon in it!! A little salty and sweet. I guess it tasted OK but, gotta admit, it was strange to have little pieces of bacon hanging around my mouth after I finished a scoop. (Price: $4.00 - but it was a good sized cup...)

that sounds so bizarre. Sounds like an interesting flavor that it might just work. its kind of like the peanut/pretzel/chocolate granola bars that I've had recently...sweet and salty at same time

Are you serious about shipping? Well, here is their website http://www.spooncatering.net/ I don't see the bacon ice cream on it, but I'll bet they'll make you up a bunch (if you're serious..)

Somehow (?) related to bacon ice cream, this weekend at Bouley Restaurant they featured a dessert plate that included asparagus ice cream. Yum?

Sounds interesting.I would love to try it.I have been wanting to try Vosges Chocolate flying chocolate pigs, dressed in what else but…bacon. This flying chocolate pig is filled with applewood smoked bacon, Alder wood smoked salt and deep milk chocolate. My favorite weird Ice Cream was Heavenly Hedgehog's Garlic Ice Cream creamy, sweet, and garlicy. They had it at the Pocono Garlic Festival I don't know if they make it anymore the festival changed for the worst.

This reminded me of Justin Wilson. He used to say one day he was going to make onion ice cream.. "and it'll be good, too."

I just tried bacon ice cream for the first time recently at the wonderful Woodside Farm Creamery in Hockessin, Delaware. It is the one on the right. It did have small bits of broken up bacon in it, while the taste itself was very mild and subtle. Not really what I was expecting. BTW, it is one of what they call their Flip-Flop flavors, which means they only have it occasionally.

buffetbuster, what other flavors are in that dish? (Please don't say "Scrambled Egg" and "Hash Brown" ) Was the bacon ice cream sweet and smoky? Did the bacon flavor only come from the bacon itself, or did the base have some of it too?

Thanks for the tip, NYNM, and especially BB, as we love to spend the day in Delaware, and I'd love to go to Woodside Farm Creamery. Whether they have the bacon ice cream or not, it's OK. I think I'd try a taste just to say I've tried it.

David Lebovitz's blog had a recipe for candied bacon ice cream about 2 years ago. We made it at home and everyone that sampled it agreed it was enjoyable. (Google search on "Bacon Duet" for my pics)

I have long advocated sausage sherbet so that I could make a beer float.
