Bar-B-Q'ed Chicken--Crock Pot style Sun, 08/6/06 3:20 PM (permalink)
The chicken went into the slow cooker at 830 AM and will be done in a little while. I am sitting 3 rooms away and can smell that bird just soaking up that sauce. It smells so good I just had to tell someone. If we had smell-a-net I could let y'all have a sniff. Now, if it tastes as good as it smells I will add the recipe after dinner, if is "ain't" so good I will forget I ever wrote this and will go back to my old tried and true recipes. Gotta go make some mashed potatoes and cook up an ear of corn. Good Ol' Sunday dinner !!!!!! Have a nice day y'all !!!!!!!!!!

Please let us know how it turned out. My Crockpot doesn't get much use during the warmer months, and if your experiment had a good outcome, I definitely want to give this a try.

Well dinner is over and it is a great recipe. I am not a southern boy who knows Bar-B-Q upside down and backward, but I thought it was scrum-thious.
        And sooooo easy.

Let me explain that I live alone and cook for myself and my taste buds are old ----------so I may like something that the real Bar-B-Q experts would give a bad rating to--but I liked this a lot.

I took a whole chicken made by Mr Perdue and skinned it. Then I sliced off two
big steaks of chicken breast ( they go in the freezer for future consumption, probably when the lovely MaryAnn is in town). Washed the bird. sprinked it with salt and pepper inside and out and set it aside. Then I took a bowl and mixed together
3/4 cup of some bar-b-q sauce I found in the fridge
        3/4 cup ketchup ( Hunt's)
        3 tablespoons of brown sugar
        1 clove of garlic (minced)
        1 tablespoon of Wood-sta-sheer (Worcestshire---the English don't know how
        to spell) sauce.
        1 tablespoon of soy sauce
        1 teaspoon of cider vinegar
and some Tabasco --depends on your constitution and your flame retarding
        ability.

Once that was all mixed in a big bowl I took the chicken and plopped it right into the mix and made sure it was covered all over. Then put the bird in the crock pot and poured the sauce over it. Turned the control to low and went off to church. Seven hours later it was done. Probably was done before that but I wasn't ready till then. There was no nead to shread or pull or do anything--just make two piles---one for meat that had fallen off the bones and one for the bones the meat had fallen "offen". And brothers and sisters it was
dee-lish-ious. Mashed spuds, corn on the cob and cold beer to wash it all down. Goooooood Stuff !!!!!!!!!!!

This sounds like a wonderful and easy way to prepare barbeque chicken. I'm definitely going to try it. Thanks so much.

Guess what is going in my crockpot today? It sure is hot down here and this won't heat up my kitchen. Sounds wonderful. I'll take a pic of my Mariner chicken when it's done. Thanks for sharing!

We use our crockpot quite a bit during the summer months so we don't have to heat the house with the stove. I've done chicken like the ancient mariner's, plus used the same type recipe on country style pork ribs. Mmmm mmmm.

We also like to do a lot with fruit jams combined with mustards on chicken and pork. Crockpots are most convenient. Steam up some rice and veggies, and you're good to go.

Well I didn't get any pictures, children inhaled it before I could get a camera ready. That was wonderful sauce!! I'll be using this very often. Thanks so much for sharing it with us! It was delish!

P.S. I added rings of sweet onions too.

Glad you and the tribe liked it. I will be making it again over the Labor Day weekend, but I will not cook it quite as long. I will be having company, so it had better be just as good as before, or else. Love that crock pot !!!!!!

It's the seven hours for church part that bothers me.

First there was Mass---- allow about 1 hour
Then there was food shopping---- better part of an hour
Sunday crossword puzzle-----takes all week---figure an hour on Sunday
Swim 50 laps or so in the 25 yard long pool---approximately 1 hour
Watch some football, baseball or whatever sport was on-- til the chicken was overdone.
                        My how time flys-----------

Hahaha We use to spend 3 or so hours in the morning and 3 or so hours in the evening at Church. The or so is because you never knew when the preacher was gonna run out of steam and he usually really got into it. He was my grandfather :-)

That is of course excluding the days we had dinner on the grounds, or revivals, or a singing, a dunking (baptism) or a feet washing. There were many Sundays when we spent all day there.

I like to use boneless pork strips when on sale (99 cents/lb). I just add bbq sauce and slow cook for 6 to 7 hours. Once done, take a fork and shred it while in the pot (mixing with the sauce)... Makes for some nice bbq tossed on a bun. (simple and cheap, may not be the nicest, but works for me).
Next time I'll try out your sauce recipe! Sounds pretty tasty...

We use basically the same method for game of all types.

I used Uncle Vic's approach with some boneless country-style spare ribs that were on sale, Stubbs sauce I think it was. Maybe not six hours over charcoal, but certainly good enough.

I'll try it next with some proper East Carolina bbq sauce.
