Posted this earlier on the lunch and dinner forum, but wanted to make sure all the que fans out there got a chance to see it:

QFan's local paper, the Naples Daily News (a Scripps paper), ran an AP article in today's (7/4) business section on the rapid growth in barbeque restaurants around the country--especially in larger Northern cities. Definitely worth reading. Here's the link:

If you believe all of the quotes in the article these guys are trying to do it right. Guess it remains to be seen whether the urban folks will embrace this as anything more than just a current fad?

Interesting article. Being from New York (Long Island), every few months there's a new BBQ restaurant in New York City. It's been slower here on the Island. Out here we are getting the chains. A Famous Dave's opened in Suffolk a few months back and there's a Smokey Bones opening at the end of the summer (also in Suffolk). You can get the 'Master List' of BBQ in New York City here....

Too bad they want you to register to read the article. I don't register anymore, just too much info being tracked.

I'm not going to read the article for the same reason that MikeSh isn't but what you're saying squares pretty well with what my experience has been over the last few years.

For a long time, Pearson's was the only serious game in NYC. The last few years have seen Blue Smoke, Daisy May's, Dinosaur and Rub -- among others -- join the fray. All would be considered "serious" BBQ restaurants.

Philadephia, too, has seen the recent additions of the Smoked Joint and Sweet Lucy's.

All of this bodes very well for food-lovers in the Northeast.
