Hi all, going to Charleston next week and was wondering if any of you folks could recommend a barbeque place in and around Charleston. Thanks

Totally depends on what kind of barbeque/sauce you prefer.  I assume you're talking about pulled pork.

For my money, the best is JB's Smoke Shack on Johns Island; more of a tomato/vinegar hybrid sauce, and pretty good veggies too.

If you like the mustard sauce, the Bessinger brothers have a couple of places; Bessinger's on Savannah Highway has a buffet that's only open Thursday through Sunday, but it has a slightly more "mass-produced" feel.  Melvin's is owned by his brother and has locations in Mt. P and James Island, very similar to Bessinger's but just a sandwich shop.

Finally, if you like the pure vinegar sauce, Mama Brown's in Mount Pleasant (almost all the way to Sullivans) is the best, and has the best sides out of all of them.

    Enjoy your trip...

I would second Mama Brown's...the sides were great.
My grandson liked Sticky Fingers .

I hate to be the bearer of bad news. Mama Brown closed last fall when the landlord didn't renew their lease. It was near my house. If the wind was right I could tell when the chicken was frying : (

If you want the real experience go to Sweatman's

But really, Charleston is not a Que capital. Make sure you find you some shrimp and grits.
