Batavia, New York...prime rib!

Alex's Place (on the west side of town) is the place I couldn't think of in a prior post. They serve up a massive prime rib (king's cut I think they called it) for about $20 and it was certainly at least one of the best I've had. I found this place last summer, and I made sure I encored it a month later when another trip found me back in western NY.

I plan to get out there this summer. Maybe I can give it a shot.

My parents used to go to a steak and prime rib joint out near Batavia 15 years ago, they said it was great, I never went myself....If memory serves me right it was the Red Osier.....

I am glad that somebody else mentioned Alex's Place on here. I was leaving Rochester hungry yesterday (didn't want to spend the hour wait at Dinosaur after having eaten there twice in three days) and made the mistake of heading out onto the Thruway. We were heading from Rochester to Buffalo and the options were thinning out pretty quickly. I knew that there was a highway rest area between the two cities (not really feeling the fast food urge) and I knew that if I could make it into Buffalo, there would be some fine eating available -- my hotel in Amherst is right up the road from Duff's (dinner last night!), and not far from Ted's Hot Dogs and Anderson's. So, I begrudgingly got off the Thruway at Exit 48 (Batavia), which advertised a fine selection of the aforementioned fast food, Crapplebee's, and a Bob Evan's. My traveling companion for this trip was not to be left hungry too much longer (or my eardrums would have exploded!), so we needed to stop. Of all places to ask where to find "roadfood", it had never occurred to me that one could be the toll booth operator. Adept at giving directions, she pointed us into the parking lot of Alex's Place, which, for all intents and purposes is right next to the Batavia Downs race track. The lunch menu was plentiful and inexpnsive. The burgers were big, hand-formed and filling, with hearty french fries. The soup of the day was a potato corn chowder, which I did not try, but looked delicious. They had a strong selection of cheesecakes and deserts (pie was $2.95/slice). Two thumbs up. Steve
