NYNM, have you seen tha Bay Corn thread in the recipes section? Yes, Bay Corn is the BIG veggie for the new year. I am going to offer it, on the side, for folks to add to their chili. I must be carefull not to make the chili too salty though. I hear Chesapeake Corn Chowder, made with Bay Corn, will be very popular as a new years dish. Hmm, I may add some Bay Corn to my Good Luck Stew? Joe

Excuse me, also. I googled bay corn and came up without an explanation. Also, other RF forums were unclear as to exactly WHAT it is. Someone, please explain, as I MUST keep up with all this. Thanx....and HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

NYNM, this is your thread and I was hoping you would explain bay corn. Maybe I did not give you enough time? No one asked on my thread. Anyway, I thought it was time to end the mystery. Ride and Phish, after many mentions of bay corn here at roadfood, you are the first two observent enough to ask for an explanation. If you read page 1 of the "Old style/new style vegetable" thread in this "side dish" section, all will be explained. I hope you will find this all in fun, as a few others here at roadfood have. Well, all explained except how many uses and recipes you get if you google; "bay corn" recipe Joe

To All: Yes, Bay Corn is da bomb! And, as PapaJoe directs you to New/old sytle veggies, you will see the provenance. Bay Corn itself is derivative. From (of all things) a typo. Dating back from the days of trying to type in "baby corn". However, to those historicists here, you note the "bay" corn has grown to be a quite popular roadfood Virtual Food! Join us for a dish on New Years!!! (its local/no cal, and no transfats either!).

I will be making a big batch of "Buffalo Bay Corn" for new years. The recipe is easy; Bay Corn... I like Reese brand. Frank's Hot sauce... Or Louisiana Hot Sauce is OK only if you live west of the Mississippi. Real butter Heat it all up. Your on your own as far as the proportions and other details. :~) This goes great w/ a good Champaign! Enough Champaign and the details won't matter *^$@ Happy New Year all! Joe Anyone who does not know about "bay Corn" can Google... roadfood bay corn.

Organic Bay Corn sounds great Russ! I can't get that link to work though. Maybe all Bay Corn grown in shallow salt marshes is organic? Joe

Russ... sorry I missed your question. I just saute the Bay Corn. Grilled or fried sound good though. I must try both. Grilled Mexican style with mayo and spicy seasonings sounds REAL good! The Baycorn.com site has now gone away. There are still lots of hits for "bay corn" recipe though... 102,000 or so. And, If you click the more from roadfood link, on the first page, you can real all the stuff here aboyt Bay Corn.. Joe

Well, you guys (gals) beat me to it. Yesterday I did a search here to find the bay corn/new years and nothing came up! Or I made a mistake. But don't make the mistake of not having a bite of bay corn (with your herring) for 2009.!

I understand that Al Gore is forming a new team to investigate whether the raising of Bay Corn is an alternative energy source. Many of you probably know that the Gore farm is one of the major suppliers of Bay Corn. He claims two ears of Bay Corn can convert energy to the equivalent of 3 gallons of gas

Ann, have you seen all the recipes for Bay Corn floating around the internet? There are thousands of them. And a Bay corn warmer was found and posted on another Bay Corn thread. The "new vegetable" thread you will see how all this got started at Roadfood. Fried, interesting info! Now we know. Cakes ~) Joe

A biy late reporting but I made a BIG batch of Buffalo Bay Corn for my family NYE party. Everyone who was brave enought to try it loved it. I did not rinse the juice from the Bay Corn like I did last year. I gave it quite a diff, kinda vinigary ( typo) taste, that the educated eaters at the party enjoyed. I had some left and froze it. Now I am thinking about mixing it w/ some Johnny's French Dip Au Jus sauce. Hey... it might be great! :~) Any other suggestions? Joe

Blue cheese is a must for Buffalo Bay Corn! Although some, not that I approve, insist on Ranch. Maybe a good homemade buttermilk Ranch would be OK? Update; Aged Bay Corn and Clam Chowder now has the #1 Google spot for "bay corn". But they call it "old" for some reason??? I hated for NYNM to have the last word here. Oh... it IS his thead... nevermind. :~) Joe

Looks like Bay Corn has had a BIG year in 2009 with 8,430,000 Google hits as of today 11/28/2009. Edit; Only 10,300 hits if you use the " "s for "bay corn". There are two other good Bay Corn threads here at Roadfood if anyone wants even more info. Oh... and there is the thread started by NYNM about new style vegetables... that started the whole world wide Bay Corn craze. Bay Corn should be a huge menu item for New Years Eve this year. Does anyone have any new recipes? There are plenty of recipes if you sort through all those Google pages. The Black bar Corn Chowder from Recipezaar sounds interesting but I always trust my Roadfood buds for the cream of the recipe crop. Ohh, and 2009 saw the new scientific discovery of the elusive Bay Corn Snake. Several are now in captivity and there is even a video about how to care for them. Happy New Year all!!! :~))) Joe
