I missed that piece today. Would've liked it 'cause I LOVE Thrasher's Fries.

Don't know if it's still there but, during the 50's and 60's, Jerry's Knishes on the boardwalk at Rockaway.

Of course, there was always ice cream from the Good Humor man. This poor pith-helmeted guy lugged a huge cooler full of dry ice and ice cream treats all up and down the beach. You'd have to be a good humor man to do that all summer and not kill somebody.

I had to respond to the English's Chicken post. I lived in Berlin, MD not 2 blocks from the English's on MD Route 50. I loved their sweet potato biscuits! Incredibly greasy, heavy concoctions with tons of real butter slathered on...oh gosh! So, this year, my husband who is a land-lubber, a mountain man, however you want to put it (we live in SW Virginia) will be trying sweet potato biscuits for the first time...wish me luck...it's going to become a Thanksgiving tradition if I can master the method!

Good luck on the biscuits! I remember when I was a kid (back in the 50-60's) when we went "downy Ocean" we would get the most awesome sweet potato biscuits from a bakery on Philadelphia near 7th or 8th st. It was right near the corner drug store. I've had other sweet potato biscuits since & many have been good, but none ever came near the ones from that bakery.

I spent a lot of youth years on the Rehoboth-Ocean city stretch. And did all the boardwalk junkfood things. My parents would let the kids go to the Rehoboth boardwalk on their own, but my mother always demanded a large box of caramel corn from the place on the north corner where the main street hits the boardwalk. And the obligatory taffy. Ocean City usually was a day trip -- yep, Thrashers. My first experience with malt vinegar on fries. Seems Rehoboth has gone a bit upscale, with finer dining places. I wonder if anyone got burgers and stuff from the big white restaurant that used to be on the north side by the bridge at Indian River Inlet, or the one on the hill at the old Yacht Basin (now Northside Marina). Genuine roadfood places; that was a few years ago.

I eat first, grab a six pack of MGD and a Power-Ade and take a 10 minute walk over to Pawleys Island beach. South Causeway.Eating sucks in the sand.

I'm with Signman on Maruca's Pizza at Seaside Heights in NJ. Wonderful stuff. And after baking on the sand for a few hours, nothing tasted as good as a cold fresh-squeezed OJ from the Kohr's srand. I'd get the biggest one they had, gulp it down and want more.
