Thanks for the recent review (featured on today's home page) of the Beacon Light Tearoom. I have long maintained that the Beacon Light has the best chicken in the general Nashville area and am also very fond of their country ham, biscuits & preserves. One other bit of crucial information -- the restaurant is only about a 15 minute drive off I-40 (if you utilize the I-840 spur near Dickson) and is WELL worth the detour (but check the schedule as they have weird hours). Highly Recommended!!

It's even closer to I-40 than that, Pogo. If you go south at exit 172 and turn left at highway 100, it's only five minutes. I just with they would open for lunch weekdays.

Pogo & PP, I didn't get out of Austin in June as originally planned, but my new target is October. I'll expect both of you to join me in a meal at Beacon when I come through!

Count on it, Bushie! I think I have a wedding to attend on the 23rd, but there's not much else that could keep me away.

Bushie, I am looking forward to your October visit and I hope it is not the 28th of October as I will be in Vegas racing.

Pogo and PP, I will be in Nashville on 8/20. I would like to visit the Beacon Light. Can you give me directions to this fine fried chicken place/

          Thanks

Paul, I can tell you how to get there, but on 8/20, there will be an event in Nashville that you might be interested in attending. It's called Nashville On The Rocks. It will be on the Shelby St. pedestrian bridge over the river. There will be all kinds of liquor distributors with samples of their wares. I've been to several events of this type, and it's always a good time. You're welcome to join me and a few other friends.

you know there are now so many places on my must eat list in Nashville that i may have to spend a week there and get them all in instead of on per trip to visit the family in New York! The Beacon Tearoom looks like the place that i wish was down the street so i could eat there 3 time week!--and i am greatly releived to hear the the Loveless is "better then ever"!!!!!All this great food and MUSIC TOO!!!!!!

Pogophiles: Thanks for the link. I only wish we had been hungry enough to stop last February during the BBQ run.. I saw where Povery indicated that it was a little closer off interstate than we first believed.

At that point, I couldn't have eaten a Slim Jim.

Pogo, I hear you're going to forego the Cadiz reunion, so if you're gonna be around later that week, maybe Wed or Thu, we might be able to eat some fried chicken.

Bushie, that is the truth. When the Mayor was so full that he wanted to go home, I knew that too much food had been consumed. I sort of paced myself at Hayes but it was hard. The BBQ was so good. I wish we had stayed there and just overindulged at that point but we had no way of knowing.

That was one of the best BBQ places I have ever been with the exception of what you showed me in Austin

Ditto, Sundance, and I'm elated that I won't have to pace myself this coming Friday. D*mn the restrictions, I'm gonna PIG out!

Friday Morning --11 am The three of us Bowen's will be there to greet Mr Hays. Poverty Pete and Bushie will be there too...and the last news we had was that Tippy from Eastern KY we going to join the fun. The maybes are Paul and later in the weekend Pogophile.
The Super 8 Motel girl told me tonight that they were filling up with potential HamFest visitors for the weekend. I still don't have a schedule of events...but as long as it involves country ham...I'll be there.
Then Saturday A stop at the Moonlite BBQ in Owensboro is in order.
To finish off the weekend we are headed to Jungle Jim's in Cincinnati on Sunday! That's going to be a great time for any and all who can make it.

Al - make sure to stop by one of the following for a meal while in Cincinnati

Blue Ash Chili - reviewed on this site

Saigon Dragon - excellent and inexpensive viet\oriental cuisine, about a mile north from Jungle Jims, on rt4, right hand side

Pit to Plate BBQ - best bbq in Cincinnati, imho.
                          http://www.cincinnati.com/freetime/dining/reviews/031904_pittoplate_yum.html

Sugar N Spice - This is a breakfast place only, more or less. The pancakes are the thing.

Mio's Pizza - Many locations in town, one of them a mile south of Jungle Jims, opposite side of the road Chicago style pizza done well, or try a sesame crust original style pizza

I could do the Beacon Light on Thursday, if anyone wants to go. On Friday, I'm planning to test the Loveless' ham biscuits on my way to the smokehouse.

We'll be out of Lanesville in the morning...by 8 or 8:30 am if possible. That makes it 10-10:30am or a bit after at JJ's. Figure we will do Claudia Sanders in Shelbyville, KY on the way home in the afternoon.
