If your ever driving on I-90 between Albert Lea and Austin, MN there is a little town called Hayward. There is a meat market called Nick's that has won just a ton of awards for their Jerky and other products. I'll stop in and pick up a pound every month or so. I have it gobbled up in one weekend, start eating Jerky and drinking beer...I can't stop! It has a nice "chew" to it.

Last two road trips I've been on, I get beef jerky and a can of Pringles. That way I get my meat and taters on the road!

Has anyone else had Joel's beef jerky, in Flatonia, TX. It has a great flavor and is moderately tender.

Bushie, Do you know the name of the small little store in Johnson City that sells the Jerky? It is at the point the road Y's? They sell all sorts of nick nacks. I want to tell someone the name so they can stop by and get me some dry sausage? Michael

About 100 miles east of Seattle, in Roslyn, Washington -- The tiny town where the Cicely, Alaska scenes in Northern Exposure were filmed -- is a place back up the road, next to the old junkyard that makes the best beef jerky I have ever eaten. It is called Carek's Market ... I think it used to be a wider-service butcher, but they now just do jerky, the assorted dried sausages and bacon. No presrvatives or chemicals, or odd flavors -- just basic, lean, tasty meat.

Right across the street from the Cle Elum bakery on the main street through town is a butcher shop called Owens Meats that has the BEST beef jerky in the universe. I've often thought about moving up there just to be close to Owens. :-)

Here in Alaska it's all about the salmon jerky. Moose jerky is common also. Very tasty. I have also had reindeer jerky although that is usually used for sausage. (kind of tough) JMHO David O.

(kind of tough) JMHO David O. Moose jerky sounds interesting. I have had elk and goat but never moose. I am on the look out. I just saw reference to some Bear Jerky in Oregon but I could not find any while on my most recent trip. Anyone tried Bear jerky?
