I use one off of allrecipes.com listed under Italian Beef. Its a slow cooker recipe...I smoke the roast for about an hour (using a combination of oak & cherry) on the Weber before putting it in the slow cooker. I really like it with grilled onions, grilled cherry peppers (jarred works best) & provolone on a crusty Ital roll. I cook this for UFC night everyother month...we have never had to worry about leftovers. Serve with ice cold cheap beer (PBR, Bud, Miller, Genny, etc..)

You can order the beef and gravy from quite a few vendors online. I see places here in Chicago (home of the best beef sang'wiches)advertizing all the time. I am certain Portillo's is amongst them. I like Al's or Mr. Beef better. But the best beef in Chicago is Boston's Chicago Ave. and Grand Ave!!Check online and see if these places deliver... All you need to do is heat and serve, just do not boil the juice, simmer to temperature and serve!

Ive never had a REAL italian beef sandwich but after reading about them on hre and seeing a frozen packaged variaty at super walmart I bought the Uncle Charles Italian Beef and some long rolls, I sauteed peppers and onions and added to the beef/gravy mix and allowed all to simmer before serving.. rather tasty but I also added some slices of cheese and hot peppers... now THATS a good sandwich!!

I'd be inclined to order from Al's ... Having been there in person, if the mail order quality is even close, it would be something worth eating. (I am wondering if they sell the rolls too?)
