Without stating the obvious, I'd have to say she must have been whacked out to begin with to swallow that. I'm shuddering. You're supposed to gargle for 30 seconds and I can't even gargle (or swish) for more than 15 without gagging every day.

So gross. But thank you for that.

No class.....I would have opted for a recent bottling of a nice Aqua velva. Listerine is so not happening in polite circles.

        Listerine? Gag a maggot!!!!!!!!!!!

How could anybody ingest that stuff? I love Canadian and my first drink of that is bad enough.

I've seen hard core drinkers resort to after shave and vanilla extract.

I remember reading a story a year or so ago that some stores in NY (I think) had to keep their Vanilla Extract behind the counter... Seems the hardcores where scamming it off the shelves left and right to use for purposes other then cooking..

              Dearfolk,
Sure - I've heard of that before! A radio station in legally-dry Monroe, Georgia had an announcer who would "lay into the Lavoris" before his air shift would some - times talk so slow - ly that it took him eigh - ty se - conds to read a six - ty - se - cond com - mer - cial. (You should have heard how long it took for him to drawl "That was Jan & Dean performing "The Anaheim, Azusa & Cucamonga Sewing Circle, Book Review And Timing Association"!!)
I've also heard of winos taking liquid fuel (notably Sterno) and filtering it through a loaf of day-old bread. Glorph. Next I'll start taking a healthy dose of brown mustard in my coffee, folks.
Always Ready For A Gag, Ort. Carlton in Cool-But-Pleasant Athens, Georgia.
              P. S. Tomorrow is "High Gravity Night" at Copper Creek Brewpub. Matt won't tell anyone beforehand what they're going to have, but since the Belgian Blonde ran out Friday night, he's replacing it with something new tomorrow. Beats Lavoris and/or Sterno all hollow, if ya ask me.

Long time ago, my dentist would take a swig of mouthwash before seeing each patient (all in the guise of not offending the patient). Trouble was, he always swallowed it! After a few years, I discovered he was in rehab for alcoholism. Hmm, how did that happen?

I think we have a first here, folks! I have never heard Paul use the words "gag" and/or "maggot" in ANY of his posts...

                  P.S.: Paul, is that CLC???

I have heard of desperate people taking the mouthwash route in order to get alchohol. I believe there are some cases where people have died from it.

The worst thing I have seen was a young boy who came into the ER one day after drinking a little anti-freeze during the previous nights party. It seems that ethylene glycol is an ethonal potentiator and was used to get more "bang for the buck" so to speak. This young man died - very traumatic for all involved.

wasn't it some politician's wife who admitted to a drinking problem and then went public with the fact that she'd been chugging listerine and cough syrup behind the scenes at her government events? a while ago???
                      sad .

Here in the ol' burg of Prestonsburg deep in the Eastern Kentucky mountains, we use to have a legendary character(really a sad story...)named T.J....It seems that T.J. was fond of Skin Bracer and Hai Karate cocktails. We kids after school would see him in town on his Bracer Buzz, and get him to sing for us...He had some really neat originals w/ choruses like "Everybody's going down Dracula's Highway" and "The Werewolf Sleeps Tonight". The latter sung to the tune of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"...He would stomp his feet and snap his finers. Truly a sight to behold!...Twenty years ago he was burnt up in a house fire. Truly tragic.
I would think that Skin Bracer and other such "refreshments" would be hell on the liver and kidneys. Tom B.

The drugstore cocktails preferred by our patrons at the WVU Emergency Department were Cherry Nyquil, Phar Mor brand cough syrups, the obtainable by special request over the counter Tussin with codiene, and Scope. The finer herbal essences of Listerine , never enjoyed great popularity here. Tone's Imititation Vanilla in the 32 oz size were also consistently consumed apertifs.

Original Listerine works well color-wise as a replenisher when "borrowing" a little bit of brown liquid from a square or brown bottle...one of many lessons learned during my sordid youth.

Redtressed, when was Tussin with codeine ever OTC? Isn't codeine a regulated drug?

That's the most effective cough medicine I ever had. Had it a few times with bad bronchitis and ear infections. Lovely codeine high as a fringe benefit.
