Beer with breakfast - review

Canyon Club - Chula Vista, Californy
Breakfast includes ham and eggs, hashbrowns, toast, coffee, juice and 1 beer for $7.00 or steak for $8.00

I have been to this place a couple of times. Mostly years ago when I was single and wanted to "impress" a date (make them dump me.. little gold diggers!). But the food is great. Our local Tin Fork finally did a review. People have been going there for over 40 years. I remember going in the early 80's... Saw the review and now I'm going to take my wife this weekend...:)

Sandy, I enjoyed reading the article. Sounds like my kind of place. Nothing like a Amber Boch for breakfast!!

    beer with breakfast is disgusting.

but there's nothing wrong with beer FOR breakfast.

i remember reading somewhere that david crosby, back in his days of total lunacy, used to start his day with what he called "the breakfast of champions": a glass of fresh-squeezed oj, a double espresso, a shot of tequila and a couple of line of coke. of course, this kind of breakfast also led him to some hard time in a Texas prison and a kidney transplant. You pays your money and you pays the price, i guess.

    Scallion,
After I had a Large Orange juice, a couple of cups of strong coffee, and a shot of Tequila, I'm gonna need a rest room before standing in a couple of lines for Coca-Cola!

Crosby must have had stronger kidneys than I do..at least for awhile!!

    Oh!

    Now I get it!.....

As Robin Williams once said... "A few lines of coke will make you a new man...only problem is that the first thing the new man wants is another few lines of coke".

Beer w/ breakfast? Sounds ok as long as you never went to bed.

Used to be a pub called the Fox & Anchor in London's Smithfield market neighborhood that catered to the early rising butchers and had a special dispensation to serve beer with breakfast (pubs didn't open until lunchtime back then). Traditional English fry-up featuring black pudding (aka blood sausage), baked beans, fried eggs, etc. and a pint of bitter, all at 8:00 in the am. Great way to start the day.

When I was in Germany staying with (German) friends, they did not have beer with breakfast, but they opened up the beer bottles at about 10AM and then drank beer all day, the way we Americans drink water or diet coke, etc.

I had a buzz on all day that way.

(Of course if you had a late breakfast, you would have beer with breakfast....)

I should 'fess up that although I've had my share (okay, more than my share) of morning beers, my favorite breakfast libation used to be a good shot of Johnny Walker Red in my coffee. Back in those days, the spiked coffee tasted awfully good with the first of my 40 or 50 daily Marlboros.

Why is all this stuff so bad for us? Just ain't fair.

In the 60's I helped a college friends family during wheat harvest in North Dakota, breakfast for the workers always included beer with tomato juice mixed in. Harvesting is pretty much a 24 hour operation when the weather is right.
