I did note the increase in the price of the famous Pork Chop at Knock'em Hill. In the year plus time slot from Pov Petes Photo. Price ($9.65), To the recent BB and friends return, Price ($12.50) is a pretty good jump ! It speaks wonders to what "demand" can do to the Menu pricing equation! It is still a real bargain, as few will attempt it for a one-person entree!

Ceci, let me extend my good wishes on your degree as well. I think we could hang because I love a grilled cheese sammitch with pickles as much as the next girl. Thanks for a great report!

Thanks for a great report! Thanks Nancy I reckon we could... Thanks ChiTownDiner, and hope all is well with you! And bill v, I'm not sure Stroud's could measure up... sorta like once I had Ridgewood BBQ nothing since has really measured up either! (I think it also depends on your mood when you have the great taste for the first time... if that makes sense!)

It's amazing what you come up with searching Bon Ton Fried Chicken...I have a batch marinating, it's been about 30 hours now. I wanted to see again exactly what it looks like after being fried so I have something to compare it with. Searched google for images and this report came up....I don't know how I missed it back in 2009....LOL! Henderson is only 650 miles or so from Culpeper, Va....I'm thinking I may have to make it a motorcycle trip this Spring.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for this fabulous trip report! "Belated" doesn't matter at all ... it's the quality of the travelogue (and photos) that counts.

You are MOST welcome I really had a fantastic time, and it turned out to be my last real "vacation" before my PhD... which is amazingly now done! (Excepting the 'viva' or oral exam.) I enjoyed re-reading it today, but what's even more special now for me about this post is that Michael Stern took the Huber's report to heart, went, liked it, put it in a recent book, and even quoted me. So - all told - this trip and report were really very special for me, and continue to be! Thanks again to Buffetbuster, it was all his 'deal'.

CajunKing Does this mean that when we are now in your presence we bow or kneel before you? CONGRATS!!! ROFL! I hope not... and I still haven't yet had my oral exam so am not yet "Dr."... but I will readily admit it was the hardest thing I have ever done... absolutely brutal. Am now very relieved. Thanks, CajunKing!!!

Our hearty congratulations CC. You are working in an area of study that is near and ear to me, as you know. We celebrated your good news with a quiet visit to HUBERs last night. The grandkid wanted to go to the movies with his friends, so we dropped him at the theater complex next to the Greaters Ice Cream you visited...then had a nice chicken and livers dinner on a brisk fall evening. We thought of you...and the many other RF friends we have shared meals with at that fine restaurant, when they brought us basket after basket of fresh hot fried biscuits! We scarfed down more than one squeeze-tube of that great Apple Butter with the fried dough...and had to use a take-out box to bring about half of the livers home for late night snacks. I too appreciate your contribution to the RF publication. Hubers deserves it's place in that volume, and thanks to you it now has it's reward.

I dont know how I missed this fantastic report the first time around...and congrats,Professor! I had the pleasure of going to Hubers with Al and Janet this spring, and just loved it! We dont have chicken like that in Wisconsin, and those biscuits were addicting. Janet had livers, so I was able to taste those, as well.We all had enough leftovers to have a good "snack" while watching the Kentucky Derby. Next trip I seek out Bon Ton...

What I miss most about Roadfood and especially RF trips... all you friendly people! Thanks all. Louis, people are still talking about Bon Ton, but I thought it was due to have closed this summer? What's the latest scoop? (Hope you are reading!)

CC. BonTon Mini Mart received a last-minute reprieve and is operating as normal. All reports are that the quality remains excellent. Please let us know in advance of your return to the Land of Your Heritage... We'll leave a light on for you, and have a Buffet of all your favorite RF dishes ready !!

Ceci, the Bon Ton was all set to close in late June of last year. I went in there on a Thursday and they were all set to close the next day. So on Friday I went in there, and they said that they were going to remain open after all. And it's been operating like normal ever since. The cook runs it now. What gets me is that the former owner is in there every day, works the register, gets their chicken from the local grocery store, waits on tables, comes and goes as he pleases. The only difference now is that he is an employee (well, one who works as much as he wants to). He just didn't want to rent the building anymore. That is the ONLY difference. Kinda of funny really. But whatever floats their boat, I guess. See my other thread ("Bon Ton Mini Mart Catfish" in the seafood section) on a couple of things that the Bon Ton has added to the menu in the evening (3 to 7 p.m.) to attract a better evening crowd.
